Character name: Lambdadelta
Fandom: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Timeline: Post-another roleplay? But Post EP6 for something more coherent.
Age: Over a thousand.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Being an Umineko witch, Lambda can basically do whatever she wants. Summon what she wants, create what she wants out of thin air. She has the ability to change her voice to make absolutely perfect impressions of other people, saying that 'anyone can fake a voice, like trying to get out of school sick, or trying to get something you want'. She's got no rules with what she can conjure, but when it comes to serious things, there are rules. Being the Witch of Certainty, she can kill any person 'certainly'-- something a witch usually can't do because all important magic is fundamentally based on risk in the Umineko world! This seems like a cheap power though, and not really a fun one-- her real power is a massive godmod power. She has the ability to make anything happen with 100% certainty-- though not always right away, it's still a gamebreaker should she choose to use it. (I will not be using this most likely.)
Lambdadelta is also a voyager/traveler witch, which means she can travel from kakera (worlds) to kakera, doing whatever she pleases. So she's a canon universe-traveler. A voyager witch is a witch strong enough to retain their sense of self in the sea of kakera (kind of a feat) and go to and fro. She won't be invoking this on the Thor, one because duh, and two because it's another game for her to watch. Lambdadelta can also freeze time and talk to someone specifically while time is frozen-- though it really isn't talking to someone while time is frozen as much as it is taking them to another plane of reality and speaking with them-- but it's still pretty much the same thing from an outsider's point of view.
Another thing, and the most prevalent thing to come up as part of her powers, is the use of the red truth and the blue truth. The red truth is something stated, complete with obnoxious noise and red text floating in the air, that is the truth, simply put. It can be a truth that omits other truths, or a truth that is misleading, but it is still an objective, pure truth. Blue truth is theorizing, subjective truth, that counters the red and can only be countered by the red. It can be easily torn apart by the red when wrong. They're kind of like dueling blades of logic formulated just for a mystery. Witches are capable of granting use of the blue truth to humans. There's another truth, but it's not Lambda's place to use it so I won't go into it.
Another thing is that Lambda likes to grant the wishes of humans if it strikes her fancy. Just something to note.
How would they use their abilities?:
She won't.
Well, that's a lie. She will, for things of her own personal pleasure and comfort, appearing things out of thin air-- anywhere from sweets to mindless butlers, but when it comes down to absolutely serious things, Lambdadelta won't use her godmoddish powers. She's an observer to the Big Game, the storyline, as they say. She won't view anything on the S.S. Thor as another presentation of a play or a story, therefore, she won't force her hand unless absolutely necessary, or if something catches her attention. Her biggest manipulation and most favored one is in words, and letting the trainwreck happen on its own with a simple nudge from her direction.
She most likely will never get into a physical fight on the Thor, because she would deem it 'beneath her'. The most I see her using-- as this is the only thing she uses in canon against human characters as well as her fellow witches, is the red and blue truth, and occasionally stepping in to deflect a story in a direction she wants to see it take-- but not much more.
It will take a very persuasive person to get under her skin enough to actually feel like she has something to prove in teaching them a lesson. However, if there are people she likes, she may or may not lend her wish-granting powers their way, if she so feels like it.*
* - I will absolutely not use this to break the flow, plot, or anything of the game at all. That is hideously dumb and if there's anything that I think might tread that border, I will come to the mods first.
Appearance:
First,
a picture from the anime. Second, a
picture from the visual novel. It can be agreed that through both mediums, Lambda looks young. In comparison to another
teenager and an
18 year old girl, I would say Lambda looks about fourteen, maybe fifteen on a good day where she feels nice and serious. This is a very rough guesstimate, since we know her real age is beyond a thousand and I'm trying to figure it out in comparison to other characters, but enough of that.
Now to get into this fully.
Lambdadelta is all pink, ribbons, and frills. It mirrors her personality, in a way. Where she's all pink, she's got black gloves that don't go with anything else, and a pumpkin just slapped right on her dress. It's like a reminder of 'hey, I'm a witch!', at least visually. She wears a beret and bows at all times, along with that pink dress-- to be honest, we've seen her in nothing else and she probably won't go for any costume swaps on board the Thor while she's there unless it's for an event. The childish look is probably something chosen out of favor, to compliment her outer personality and to lead people along with it. A pink dress with two layers, striped stockings, pinkish-red mary janes, all sorts of hair clips, short blonde hair, and it should be pertinent to mention her eyes are gold, not red because the anime messed that up. Her character appearance is a callback to
Takano Miyo of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, a character she is canonically tied to, much like her counterpart, Bernkastel.
So yes, loli-looking girl who dresses in a very loli-looking way. It's called throwing people off!
Background/Personality:
background;
NOTHING MAKES SENSE
( UOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH )
As told from the Anti-Mystery (magic) perspective.
It is a series for people who don't have enough things to hate in their life. It is 1986. The Ushiromiya family has gathered for its yearly family conference. The Ushiromiyas are so rich you can probably smell the money wafting off of them. Kinzo, the old man and head of the family, made their family what it was today, rich enough to own an island even in this day and age (or rather, that day and age). The rumor was that Kinzo made a deal with the good witch Beatrice, who had given him ten tons of gold (think 1/100,000th of all the gold that had been mined since the dawn of man. Think a lot of money), and that whoever found Kinzo's gold, much like Lucky Charms, would inherit it all and become the successor to the Ushiromiya family. ... wait that's not like the cereal at all nevermind.
Anyway, Kinzo's not good to his kids, and his kids aren't good to him so basically, while Kinzo is on his death bed that year, the kids (now adults) are trying to trick each other and con each other out of inheritance money, and basically they're a bunch of assholes! They all have business ventures they want taken care of. They are counting on the death of their father and not only that, are competing against each other for mo' money. They aren't loving, but at least their children are! Aside from Maria, who's a creepy, creepy child who seems to have inherited Kinzo's love of black magic, and all the talent he never got for it.
Beatrice's epitaph, the one that contains the riddle to finding the gold and becoming the Ushiromiya successor, at first starts off like a riddle but becomes more and more grotesque as time goes on, talking about sacrifices. Everyone dismisses it as "lol dad is a crazy bastard" but in fact, it actually is talking about human sacrifices. You see, Kinzo has no magic power on his own, but he studied and studied to get himself there. His magic hinges on the power of miracles, and the smaller the chance of succeeding, the greater the magic will be once he's actually succeeded. So I guess "lol dad is a crazy bastard" isn't that far off after all. In any case, on that day of the family conference, Beatrice comes to take back the gold she gave Kinzo and the interest, meaning all the things Kinzo gave birth to, meaning all of his creation, including living people. So yeah, 'sacrifice' isn't far off at all either.
The only way to escape this fate is to solve the epitaph, find the gold, and Beatrice will forfeit all rights to it. Unfortunately, the circle of death doesn't allow for much time to actually solve it often, boo hoo. Six are always dead by the First Twilight, the first stage of the 'ritual' so to speak, and more to come. And Beatrice doesn't have any qualms about killing more than she has to, apparently. Kinzo's goal is to see her face again, and to open the gates to the Golden Land himself-- even if it means staking his life on the line, because that is the grand sacrifice his magic requires. Why is everything complicated.
The first time it happens, stakes fall, everyone dies. But they are revived! And Battler retains his memory of this to a certain degree. And he denies the existence of witches to Beatrice's face, even after seeing her magic power. Put on the crown, Battler, tonight you're the king of retards. In his denial, Battler begins a game of wits with Beatrice, his effort is to explain everything via human methods, while Beatrice insists on magic and repeatedly shows him this. The goal is, if Battler surrenders to her logic, the game is lost, and Beatrice has won. It's quite a... unique game, though Battler has a point, believe it or not. Beatrice is obscuring the truth as a witch, her magic is nothing more than covering up the real mystery of Rokkenjima, depending on who you ask. Battler's no prodigy, so he's got a long fight ahead of him. And Beatrice has a long time to wait.
How does 'wait, if she showed him magic, and he doesn't believe, then...???' work? Well, keep in mind that the entire game is obscured by Beatrice's magic. The entirety of what we play and see and read as we play, is bullshit, and the worst case of
UnreliableNarrator you can imagine. The only things that are confirmed to be true are things stated in the red truth and whatever the Piece Battler witnesses, because he is the 'protagonist/detective' and, as of EP5 but unconfirmed for the previous games, but still worth mentioning, whatever he sees has to be true according to
Knox's Rules. (There are two Battlers. Piece Battler, who remains in Rokkenjima as the mystery plays out and has no idea of the other going-ons, and Meta-Battler, who resides in 'Purgatorio', or the Meta World, with Beatrice to fight this game with her). As for... say, seeing how Beatrice can mend him after stakes rip him apart, rewinding worlds and time, and other magical feats in the meta world and still saying magic doesn't exist... well, I don't really have an explanation for that.
BUT I HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED THE CHARACTER I'M APPING YET. What a winner am I. Battler and Beatrice's game is a game to two other people as well! Meet Lambdadelta (finally) and Bernkastel. Bernkastel now has the title of the most powerful witch in the universe-- Lambdadelta used to have it, but she beat her in a game, so whoops. Lambdadelta really holds a grudge for that, and from that rivalry an infatuation/obsession was born. A good thing to mention is that after a thousand years, you get bored easily. And you play games with the lives of humans. Beatrice and Battler's game becomes one that hold's Bern's interest, and perhaps the 'end to her boredom'.
Lambdadelta, with her obsession and her wit, plans to use this to her advantage. By involving Bernkastel in the game forever, she 'traps' her for all eternity to be with Lambdadelta! As you can see, this girl is a bit of a creeper and Bern is reallllly important to her. Though she's gambling on Beatrice's 'chess board', so to speak, she'll help out Battler by revealing Beatrice's weaknesses. Her logic for this is that if Bernkastel loses, it means she'll have to swipe her title back from Beatrice, which she could do easily, but there's no satisfaction in it. So she's really tsundere about helping and tells you she won't forgive you if you make Bern cry bawww.
Though she gave you that much, it doesn't mean Bern giving her any openings. Also, apparently Santa never visited Lambda as a child. Don't ask. Anyway, it's because of Beatrice's perfect game board that she's a witch in a first place, by letting Lambda borrow that power and trap Bern forever, she became Beatrice's 'guardian', and can take away her powers if she wanted to. And boooy is Beatrice scared of her guardian. Anyway, Lambda tells her to stop screwing around and get serious. The fourth game happens, trollololols were had, continuing on.
The fifth and sixth games I'll summarize a little eloquently: In game five, Bernkastel and Lambdadelta take over the reigns, because Beatrice is now no more than a living doll thanks to Battler. Bernkastel introduces her own piece, Furudo Erika, who is an expy of herself who plays as the sixteenth guest, to trump Battler's role in the game and solve the Epitaph and finally give Bernkastel the winning hand, pinning the crime on Natsuhi... and succeeding. It is only on the brink of death that Battler learns the truth of Beatrice's game and rises again to become game master, even though Beatrice has died, he wants to shoo Bern and Lambda and, most importantly, Erika, out of his game so that he may take it back for his true opponent, Beatrice.
Though in the sixth game they do play a more background role, Lambdadelta and Bernkastel are very much present-- Lambdadelta even helping Battler out on one occasion (with popcorn, don't ask). When questioned on her history, Bernkastel, ahem, flips out at her piece Erika, so we know that's a touchy subject. Anyway, it turns out Battler sucks at being a game master and he gets himself locked up in a logic error, later gets out, Beatrice is revived, and together the two of them shoot Erika with the red truth that There are no more than 17 guests on the island, meaning Erika can not exist. Erika then dies, or rather, stops existing.
Bernkastel, however, for Battler's failure, is handed the reigns for the next game. And that's where we're left off.
personality;
Lambdadelta is annoying as all get-out. She is the best. She knows she's the best. She enjoys being the best. This is not a good combination, though the best isn't exactly the right term considering Bernkastel-- but being the most powerful thing in existence is quite important to Lambdadelta! She happily gloats about her powers whenever she feels it's necessary. She holds grudges too, and that is not a good trait in an Umineko witch.
Anyway, her ego is like a fine wine. It has taken a thousand years to turn into perfection and then Bernkastel won against her, and took her title of 'most powerful witch'-- definitely not something she warmed up to. ... Or was it? Lambdadelta loves Bernkastel so much that she also hates her. The whole purpose of the game is to trap Bernkastel with her forever.
Her obsessive nature is not something to be doubted, though in reality, in front of Bernkastel, and in front of most people, she acts like an immature child with her ego the size of Rokkenjima. Her
sense of humor and general nature is very juvenile, and most people who look at her will dismiss her as a little kid.
Until you make her ANGRY, then you are screwed.
At first glance, Lambda doesn't look like she can take it as well as she can dish it. She'll throw tantrums if you tease her, despite her endless teasing of you. This is only her first nature, and if you're lucky, it's the only one you'll see. Lambda always knows the best move. She can look onto a chessboard 'figurative or literal' and always will make the move that is most beneficial to her-- which makes her pissed at Beatrice, who she made a witch, who will deliberately not make the best move in favor of messing with her opponents more. This means Beatrice has a weakness, which means Bernkastel has a chance of escaping Lambdadelta's bird cage, which does not make for a happy Lambdadelta. For screwing with Lambdadelta's chances of a perfect game, she threatens to send Beatrice even lower than she was before Lambda made her a witch-- something that terrifies Beatrice. And that is hard to do.
That doesn't mean Lambda is above screwing with others for amusement-- hell, it's likely something she'd do to alleviate her boredom. She simply won't do it if it gets in her way of a perfect game, unlike Beatrice. That's another point-- Lambda hateshateshates being bored, so be sure to be interesting around her! Or she will make you interesting. Her profile in the tips state she "embodies the concept that hard workers will be rewarded, and is very respected, even by human beings". Her power is immeasurable, and though she loves to tease, it's possible for a human being to earn her smile-- if they deserve it.
Lambda is 'chaotic neutral/lawful evil'. She might not look it, but while she's in cahoots with Bern quite a bit, she both loves and hates her, an obsession that makes sense pretty much only for witches, wanting to be the one that understands Bernkastel. Lambdadelta states she's a survivor-- stating that a lot of what she does is to reassure herself that she's no longer in that hell, going as far to say that 'even hate is a gift when you're trapped in hell', paraphrased. So yeah! Apparently it was so bad that she needs to constantly remind herself that she's out-- something people aren't going to learn about her unless they're very close to her. So Lambdadelta, unlike Bern, is a bit softer at heart. She's willing to risk herself to see 'the perfect good end' constructed by Ange and Battler in the very end of the series, guessing about her possible punishment of hundreds of years seriously, and taking it lightly. However, that doesn't mean Lambdadelta will do that for just anyone.
It's more fun to be a bad guy most of the time, after all. No one told you that, okay?? Jeez. She's only nice selectively and even that is rare. Also, ps: She's extremely tsundere. The people she likes especially will be seeing this part of her.
A complex wicked witch! Just what you need, Mostly Harmless.
Why should that character be in this game: Not applicable!
Why do you want to continue their history here:
I will be continuing Lambdadelta's history from
i_s_l_a_n_d_rp, a game that has closed, and also a game she was dropped from a while ago! The island was a very sandboxed jamjar that, despite its crack setting, was a bastion of CR and the like. It was full of standard events that messed with the characters, who otherwise on a normal day just... talked to people and lived out a nice 'survival in the woods' life. It was a very slice of life roleplay.
Lambdadelta was surprised by the nature of the island, but went along with it, because as I've said before, she enjoys playing the role of observer. The island's routine shenanigans that involved messing with the heads of those stuck there rarely phased her, and though she occasionally met someone she really didn't like (a man who was kind of a pedo for her considering her lolita-ish look), Lambda enjoyed teasing the residents but didn't get close to all but a select few. This is divided into two sections- people she liked because she enjoyed teasing them, and people she genuinely liked for how they acted around her. Hyobu Kyosuke, another character most likely being apped this round from the same game, is one of those people Lambdadelta would actually call a 'friend', but otherwise, she's not carrying much character relationships from the old game with her. In fact, Lambdadelta is one of few characters who can register that there is more than one iteration of a person, due to the concept of the sea of kakera. If there's someone she recognizes who doesn't recognize her, she'll chalk it up to another version and move along with life.
Lambda's most noteworthy feat on the island was setting up a closed room murder mystery puzzle on Halloween... with Hyobu as an accomplice. It was fun and they had a lot of fun, even if pretty much no one else did. I believe that's all of Lambda's noteworthy history-- if you need more, I'll be glad to provide. As I said, it was a very laid back, slice of life game, so it didn't have any huge impact on her personality as a character, but rather her relationships with others.
For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play: Not applicable!
Have you read up on how the game works?: Yes, I have! FlamingFerret, stealing, mooching, and misssions! Are these not the passwords, as well as a few personal choices you can make on board *giggle, giggle*?
1st person sample:[ A video feed starts with a girl rolling about on her bed, like an antsy schoolgirl on the telephone. ]
All the world's a stage, huh...? More like all worlds are a stage, and the scenery keeps changing for me. I've gone from warm and tropical to cold and metallic and quirky and cu-te! ☆ How disgusting, to have to shove that fish thing in my ear. Beeeeern, even if you're not here to hear, it would be so nice to see if you'd be catlike just once and eat it. Kyahahaha-!
My name? Do you want to know? Earn it. A witch of a thousand years doesn't hand out anything for free! I like the work ethic I see here, kehihi. Climbing to the top, yes, yes, how could that not be the norm for so many displaced pieces? [ a cackle, giggle, et cetera ] People. Displaced people, with nowhere else to go... or is it?
Is there a mystery in this game board? Fantasy? Or just exactly as it seems? How about I just ask a question and leave it at that? [ a hissing screech as the words appear in the air ] Tell me, does something so stupid matter in the end?
[ Some more obnoxious laughter later, the feed turns off. ]
3rd person sample:Another cute, catlike signature of "ΛΔ" on another document, another offhanded insult to the species she wasn't familiar with nor cared to become more familiar with-- the witch knew a grunt when she saw one. A grunt wasn't a piece, a grunt was just 'there'. There handing her papers which needed more signatures, more release forms, ahh, her old home made it so much easier, didn't it...? But it had lost it's charm over time, despite the company. A little dull for the witch so restlessly eager to continue seeing what the sea of kakera had to offer her-- "Yes, that's my signature, dummy! It looks like a cat because it's supposed to."
She set the pen down and cracked her fingers. No Bern. No anyone else, yet... she could sneak around and pick them out later. She'd overheard from the other newcomers, faces she couldn't place. She'd have to climb. That's right, a witch of her stature-- her omniscent nature--!! would be put at the bottom of the rung again to work up. Lambdadelta hated repeat performances. They were an annoyance to someone who already fought her way up the ladder once, but after another piece of paper was pushed in front of her, she grinned toothily.
Sign here, sign there? Okay. She wasn't resigning herself to the role of a piece just yet. Who was she, though, to not play by a few rules in order to perhaps, maybe, if it struck her fancy and the time was right, break some later? Imagine it. She breathed in and tasted how cold the air was compared to the tropical paradise. Change. Did she read that in a tarot card lately? She forgot. But something so jarring was fine. Welcomed, even. The Witch of Absolute could not stand so rigidly amidst a flowing sea of fantastic stages. She had made a few promises where she was last 'captive', and still intended to keep maybe a few. At least one.
She licked the tip of the quill she had insisted on and signed the last form. Λ Δ
(>w<)ノ
What a lucky witch, to be constantly handed things that could never bore her.
Questions?: None! Assuming carrying her from another game is kosher? Apping her clean-slate wouldn't make too much of an incredible difference, and that small bit of CR sounded fun to carry over.
Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject:
