Easiest is the Firefox plugin Chatzilla: best, features-wise is Colloquy. Which Mulan understands best if you have weird fiddly questions.

I was gonna suggest colloquy but then I noticed that Castor pimped me out!

I enjoy colloquy but I'm a complete whore for things looking pretty. But yeah, I know a little bit about it (from fiddling around, honestly) and I'm on Mulan or Katara's nicks almost always.

Good luck!

Welcome to macs! One of us, one of usss

I use the Chatzilla plugin to Firefox. It doesn't have all the features of other systems, but it's simple, ridiculously easy, and it has pings and can cope with multiple servers and many rooms.

I am apparently the weird Machead, as I use neither Chatzilla nor Colloquy! I've been using X-Chat Aqua for years, and have simply never found the motivation to switch to something newer and prettier like Colloquy. It works well enough, though, and it's got a nice neat interface and puts everything in one tabbed window by default, which is all a program really needs to keep me happy.

WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE, at any rate. \o/
