お出かけ

Lately we've been going out almost every weekend, mostly to nearby places. There's plenty to see in Yokohama, and we're just 2 stations away.

A couple weeks ago, hirofebruary7, montydrei and I went to Minato Mirai. We checked out the mall (there's a Build-A-Bear shop inside), the ferris wheel, and watched this guy juggle some fire.

It was a windy day, and he was ... not the best juggler, so he kept dropping his sticks when he would try to flip them ^^; And despite the wind, he was unable to blow out the fire by yelling at it, although he tried several times. ^^;;;

While at Starbucks (I think they just started selling the Strawberries n' Creme Frappuccino here), someone decided they wanted to go to a neko cafe. And we actually went. ^^; Well, I was feeling like doing something crazy and only available in Japan. The only problem with the one we went to was that the cats were apathetic at best. All they wanted to do was eat (we got to feed them at least) and run away from the people. :/

Oh that reminds me. Did you know とちおとめ are the most delicious strawberries ever? We bought some at the Co-op near the station, and they were really fragrant all the way home. (Like most of the fruit here, they are kind of expensive, but I didn't pay for it, so. :P) Seriously. I had just seen someone on TV earlier that day saying how delicious they were, and how he wouldn't be able to eat other strawberries after that. But whenever I see that, I think there's no way something could be that good. But that's because I had never had these! Most of the strawberries in the package look perfect, although they are small and soft, but even the ones that are white and funny-looking are completely delicious. The taste was somehow more strawberry-like than those in the states. I don't know how they do it.

Anyway, this past Saturday, we decided to go to Kamakura and be tourists. It was really nice weather and since T is familiar with the area, we ate at a really good Indian restaurant, saw the Daibutsu, and went to ... um ... some shrine. Someone was having a wedding there.

I got some great video of the freaky Shinto music they were making. o__o

Nearby they had some nice shady paths, and even a pond. We threw a 五円玉 into the box at the shrine, and then did おみくじ. I got 凶(!) so I tied it to the rope thing with all the others. There were lots of foreigners there, and I saw lots of other pink (English) papers tied up with mine.

Then Sunday, amiiro's friends came to visit from California, so we went to Shinjuku Koen, which I've never been to before. It's actually really nice in there, though it's easy to get lost because it's so big. I've never seen so much greenery in one place in Japan. Most of the sakura were still in bloom, so tons of people were there and doing 花見, even though the signs clearly said not to bring alcohol into the park >__>;

They had plenty of rest areas and such where you could buy snacks and souvenirs and sit in the shade. We were hungry, so we went to some 食堂-like place and had 牛肉うどん, or ...

I don't know what that's about.

And later we went to this little Japanese-style building where they offered a cursory version of the tea ceremony. More pictures later! orz
