Happy New Year! What a great year 2013 was-- 3 singles, a road trip, a 40-minute non-stop performance, and many many dramas and movies and plays in between<3 And this year we'll get an album and concert tour! :D I'm already trying to imagine what Nakai will do for his solo...
Time for a quick fic retrospective!
Fics written this year: 17 (only 6 of which were drabbles! I guess I got more long-winded)
Pairings written: (not counting lines) 4 nakatsu, 4 kimutsu, 3 shingoro(naka), 1 shintsuyo, 1 nakakimu, and 1 completely out of the blue Kisarazu Cat's Eye pairing.
Total fics: 78 (36 drabbles)
Pairing most written: nakatsu! just beating out shintsuyo by one fic, actually.
Longest fic: technically scenes from ten AUs with 5,209 words, but in terms of full-length standalone fics, shiawase ni narou yo (all my soul remix) with 3,221 words.
I have a hard time picking favorites-- I like all of them! But if I had to narrow it down to the ones I'm most proud of, either in terms of writing or inspiration or just something about it...
sun-dried tomato linguine in chicken alfredo sauce - One of my first longer fics. I've been meaning to write another recipefic for forever, but inspiration just hasn't struck. Also, I love doing research for fic. I made myself so hungry reading recipes for drying tomatoes and making pasta... Come to think of it, I should've worked chocolate and coffee into the sequel-- that would've been perfect! Ah well, too late now...
shigusa - Based very much on Shingo's solo, and inspired pretty much entirely because Shigusa is written 仕草, of which 草 is the same character in Kusanagi. Once I noticed that, I couldn't shake the idea of writing Shintsuyo with the all the atmosphere and unresolved tension in the song, and somewhere along the way I ended up with a lot of metaphor and implied things in there that probably aren't apparent to anyone but me. At any rate, I'm not sure I've written anything quite like it since.
underground - An odd, bittersweet Tokio fic, inspired by much watching of DASH. It's just one word, but I'm especially proud of the title.
a walk in the snow - Written for a prompt. I really wanted to capture the feeling of being in snow, that serene, calm, muffled sensation where everything seems quiet and dreamlike.
a thousand little things - I could probably write a dozen fics about the drunk-Tsuyoshi-wanting-to-spend-his-life-with-Nakai story, although I suspect this particular interpretation of Nakatsu only makes sense to me. If I rewrote it I would probably take out the bit about them already sleeping together, but who knows what might happen with so much drinking? Anyway, I love this especially for super-repressive Nakai and Tsuyoshi wearing Nakai's glasses.
forbidden - Short but hits a vivid image for me, and sums up everything I want from the Kimutsu pair.
the xxxHolic AU in scenes from ten AUs - I imagine this makes no sense to anyone who isn't intimately familiar with the xxxHolic manga. But I couldn't pass up the image of Kimura as Yuuko and all her elaborate outfits, and of course Nakai would be the put-upon (and hit-upon) servant head over heels for cheerful Tsuyoshi but destined to be with quietly-in-love-with-him Shingo. And of course it only makes sense for Goro to be a rain spirit XD
saturation point - This is the only story I have written in which I actually came close to crying.
lines - 2 and 3 are the ones that really stick with me, 2 because of all the things it might mean to erase everything and 3 because it implies a whole future of what will happen as Nakai's vision gets worse.
the words between I and you - In which I finally write actual Nakai/Kimura, and they don't even have sex. The very first line is the image that inspired it (and probably also a bit from the lyrics of Shiyou yo), and from there I wanted to focus on the tiniest details-- the shift of a foot, the edge of a t-shirt sleeve, a fraction of a moment's hesitation-- because they're important when there's only three words of dialogue in the entire fic.
