"Writing prompt: Asmodeus/Raphael, cuddle."

Title: Totally Okay

Asmodeus would never know. Ever. And that thought, more than any other, sent guilt spiking through Raphael's blood faster than cheap alcohol. This was not okay. This was about ten different kinds of not okay.

Raphael felt as though he was breaking some unspoken rule, but it wasn't as if he and Asmodeus were friends or allies-they were only even partners in the very loosest of terms. So how could one violate a trust that didn't even exist? All they did was sometimes work together to apprehend rogue demons (Hell certainly spared no effort cleaning up its messes).

Raphael had never really heard much about Hell's renegades until this century, but ever since the Jack the Ripper incident twenty years ago, Raphael had seen much more of them-and of Asmodeus (who seemed eager for Raphael's company for entirely appropriate reasons for once). The angel hardly fancied himself a real warrior, but his healing powers were nothing to be scoffed at, and Raphael assumed that Asmodeus liked having a doctor waiting in the wings.

Sometimes the partnerships were taxing, but this one at least had definite mutual benefits since the demon they were after had been wanted by both Heaven and Hell. Even still, it had been tricky, and although Asmodeus had eventually managed to strike the killing blow, the rebel demon had held its own.

Now Asmodeus lay recuperating from his injuries. Although Raphael had mended him, the marquis had been so exhausted that he'd drifted off to sleep almost immediately.

Raphael sat down on the bed, tentatively reaching out to run his fingers through Asmodeus's hair. Soft silk brushed against inky black locks, and nervously, Raphael started peeling his right glove off, yanking quickly at the fabric before he changed his mind. This time when the angel reached out, it was his warm fingertips that lightly touched the sharp lines of the demon's face. This was probably a Very Bad Idea.

Before he could talk himself out of it, Raphael lay down beside Asmodeus, and very abruptly they were pressed together from head to toe. More or less.

Dear God, he's tall... the angel thought, looking into the demon's sleeping face.

They were so close, close enough for a kiss, and that was...too intense. Raphael promptly rolled over so that his back was against the demon's chest, and that was better. Asmodeus shifted a little and murmured something in his sleep, but he did not wake up. Boldly, the angel reached back, grasping his companion's arm and draping it over his waist so that now the two beings were really cuddled against each other. The metal of Asmodeus's gauntlet gave off a strange warmth like the rest of the demon's armor, and Raphael could still feel it even under several layers of clothing.

Tense at first, Raphael slowly relaxed until he lay nestled against Asmodeus, head tucked under the demon's chin. It was all so bizarrely comforting. Asmodeus's tall, lean frame gave the illusion of protection, and it had been so long since someone had held Raphael so gently like this. Sometimes Michael or Gabriel or even Uriel could provide this kind of security, but more often than not, it was Raphael comforting and being strong for people and not the other way around.

Who could blame the angel for wanting such a reassuring presence? And even though that presence happened to be demonic, maybe just this once it would be okay.
