You should read: A Man Called Dave.

I forget the author, but that book is pretty deep.

sounds familiar to be - did the same author write a book called 'a child called it' and another one with it? can't believe i read those when i was in middle school. man!

And YES those are the books. Oh man, I read them in middle school too. That story was tough, poor guy.
