Curious question...

Apr 28, 2009 15:39

Was thinking in my head randomly and thought of this question.

If you received a freebie film DVD i.e. from newspaper, you know, Daily Mail. You then make a copy of it and share it, say, via P2P, would this be considered as piracy? Or not?

I don't know why I asked this question but I think this is a good question for discussions. :)

It will be defined in any copyright statements either on the packaging or disk itself typically, and typically it'll have 'em! Often they also say they can't be resold.

^ This.

Chances are that the company running the promotion have paid the owners of the film in order to give it away. Just because the person receiving the DVD didn't directly pay for it doesn't mean it's theirs to distribute freely.

I understand the "can not be resold" bit, but if you put it online you don't make money, therefore it's not being resold? ;P

But yeah, can see where you're coming from.

That's where the copyright statement comes in ;-)
