45th Song: Wet Musician

Eeek!

[A girlish voice screams and then giggles.]

Alright alright ... I suppose I haven't been talking over this thing for some time ... why do we have to anyway?

Oh, and to those of you who don't believe in magic still, where does this little communicator keep all the water, hmm? How does it refill after its squirted you once?

Not that I don't think magic is possible or anything, but with the other technology on this ship the communicator could combine oxygen and hydrogen from the air into water at a steady rate and use that to spray with.

Or it might run on the same logic as whatever brought us here, and it's water transported from somewhere else into a little tank inside the radio. Communicator. Thing.

It could happen.

No one has really explained this to me very well ... what IS the difference between magic and technology?

Technology can be explained scientifically, magic can't. Magic defies logic, technology works with it. Once you can explain the magic with science, it isn't magic anymore--it's a heightened ability.

[His voice brightens.]

About a century back from my timeframe, maybe a little more, my existence would be considered magic. But in my time I'm just a scientific project.

Uh hu ... well ... I talked to someone about this once before ... magic from my world can be explained. It isn't random; when you do one thing, the same thing happens every time.

So I guess I still don't understand ...

... Hi! It's been awhile since I've heard from you. So I guess you can count me among the worried.

Magic...and it's definitions can differ...no?

Translating...what language, may I ask?

I guess so ... someone told me that magic cannot be explained, but on my world it is perfectly explainable.

The language? It's elven ... old elven really. I'd like to have my own song to sing for performances instead of just singing songs I find in the library, but it seems sort of wrong to sing something in a language no one will understand ...

Elven?

I haven't...heard of that language before.

I can understand it ... and I can sing songs that I've learned ... but I'm hardly fluent.

Haven't heard of it ... then you aren't from my world I take it. Probably from Earth like most people here ...

[She giggled lightly.]

My name's Katherine.

What have you been working on?

Something. Anything ... I don't know really. I want to play some of my world's songs, but they don't sound right with these instruments. I wanted to rearrange them ... but I'm not a composer or a writer.

[She huffed.]
