[When Erol called for a regroup, Kate left with the injured, using her power to help sooth them, escorting them to the infirmary. She did what she could there to help, but soon was listening to her comm, talking to Midna and Remy and others. Then came the news

[It had taken Link some time to convince himself to leave the place of Midna's death; in the end, it was the roar of bears in the distance -the actual Carnival horrors, not Shayn's- that chased him off. Midna would have torn him to ribbons if she knew that he'd gotten himself killed again because he was being "too sentimental." Yes, that's exactly what she'd say.

It still felt like he was abandoning her, though.

Slowly, tiredly, he padded back to her room. He would wait for her to come back, right there; he would be the first thing she saw. However upon turning the corner Link spotted another form slumped against the door. It was Kate, that girl Midna had been protecting and the one who greeted him so kindly upon his arrival. The songstress. He padded quietly closer, not wanting to wake her.]

[Sleep was fitful, she was at that point of exhaustion where restful sleep is hard coming. She hadn't heard the wolf-link pad up, but eventually his breathing would come to her ears and she'd peek up, a bright emerald eye looking out under a heavy lid.]

[Seeing the wolf, she jumped lightly; instinct ran deep. But his markings were distinctive, and the look of intelligence in his eyes. It wasn't malicious like a werewolf, so she was able to calm herself almost instantly.]

Link ... you're stuck like that, aren't you?

[He sat back on his haunches, hanging his head. He nods slightly, but after that doesn't give much movement. Midna had died...and he hadn't protected her. Again.

They really did end up dead when they weren't together, didn't they?

Link can only hope that the same system that guided him back to the ship would catch her as well.]

You're sad about Midna too, hu?

[Her hand trembling lightly, she reached out and moved to pet Link's head. Thom liked being pet, so she assumed Link might as well. Some contact could be welcomed at a time like this. She herself really needed a hug.]

She knew the dangers ... but that doesn't really make it better ...
