Dieldrin, an insecticide, banned because it is toxic to a wild range of life forms, including humans; Benzidine, used in dyes and to test for cyanide, banned because it has been linked to bladder and pancreatic cancer, and mercuric oxide, used in the production of mercury and in the cathodes of mercury batteries, banned because it causes irritation of the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract, and has adverse effects on the kidneys!
