I'm sorry, what? Classical mechanics can be summed up in one equation?

Yup. The Langrangian is all you ever really need to know about it. Everything else can be pretty easily derived from that. It's the Maxwell's equations of classical mechanics, only there's only one.

Actually applying that single equation, however, can get horrendously messy in a hurry.
