Ouch.

So I'm thinking I'll go to Hillel at ASU for High Holidays so I was checking their website. They ask for at least $175 for non-student community members who aren't members of local synagogues. I wonder if they'd let me do the non-student young adult ticket for $75 ( Read more... )

They make you pay to go in? Weird...is that for like a year-long pass or is that every time you go in?

It's because a lot of Jews only show up on High Holidays rather than becoming members to pay membership dues, which are the synagogue's source of income for the year, incl. building maintenance, staff salaries, all the programming and food, etc.

I'm sure you could do the young adult ticket.

UW Hillel's community tickets are at least $100.

This year I work for a company that does 100% gift matching so Hillel gets double my ticket amount. :)

Yeah, definitely try for the $75 ticket. You are, by definition, a non-student young adult ;-) $250 is a bit ridiculous, even for the High Holidays...

I'm thinking either I'll do that at Hillel ($75 ticket + $40 for parking=more doable than $250) or maybe try the Chabad at ASU, the couple is supposed to be very nice. We shall see what happens!

Dude, you're doing a residency- not even Einstein could afford that ticket in your shoes. If they give you gruff- actually show up pay- don't wear any make up- make sure to go and pay in person after a long shift-
any half wit worth a grain of salt knows people in Residency, are basically in an academic half way house financially- $250 is ridiculous.
Look awful, sound tired, talk about- your day- and reiterate RESIDENCY- that means you're awesome and are still paying your dues.
The cherry on top could be not washing your hair, and eating a hot pocket from 7-11 filling it out fast and saying you were just trying to squeeze it in during a break. You do have acting talent- you should use it for good-
and my amusement....mwhahahahahahahaha

Wait, not even Einstein could afford that ticket-
without becoming a dealer of some illicit drug....
you could deal meth to pay.... but that might be an
extra half hour during Yom Kippur.....
