i've always felt the bible was tinkered with, so the leaders (or anyone) can alter the passages to put in what they want, to control what they don't like. now that i found some passages i've felt this more than ever ( Read more... )

just so you know, those were laws back in the day when people had to make sacrifices to ammend their sins. People of the Christian faith go by what's in the New Testament now.

Speaking as a self-styled athiest, I think "god" is nothing more then something for people who don't have much, to hold on to. And organized religion is just a guy, telling a bunch of people what to believe or else they'll be punished by something that may or not be real.

And you have to donate money.

Seems iffy to me. No thank you.

The first guy was right in saying that modern Christians follow the New Testament. This is true because once Jesus died on the cross, the Old Covenant was no longer in use (or anything leading up to his death isn't the way it is anymore- including Leviticus and Exodus). We are now under the New Covenant.

The second girl was wrong because you do not have to donate money. The bible says if you want to you can/should, but only if you can do it happily. If you give the church money and don't want to, it's a waste.

If Christians are now under the "New Covenant", then why do Christians persist in using excerpts from books like leviticus to back the Marriage Defense Act? Why does the president? Even if the new testament holds anti-homosexual sentiment, why have Christians brought up the old testament in their defense AT ALL if the old covenant is done with, if Christians should now be living under the New Covenant?

1. Because most Christians don't really read the Bible.

2. Because many churches take things out of context to suit their own desires.

3. Because a Covenant is not a set of books; one can refer to parts of the Old Testament, because unless it is a 'law', it is just information concerning the Old Testament. It's like "this is how things used to be back in the day".

4. Mainly number one.

I agree with tubafishy about the fact that most christians don't read the bible. This is something that I believe to be 100% true. Now, I'm not saying that all christians don't read the bible, because I know many who do. I'm just saying that a good majority of them are very hypocritcal. They preach the very texts that they don't live by, as well as tell others to read it when they do not ( ... )

See, I'm not the only one who thinks churches requiring an offering is bull!

But what is more unfortunate than Christians not reading the Bible, is Christians that read the Bible and still don't live like it.

I agree with that last statement from you, whole heartedly.

Great Ghandi quote!
