I'm really getting sick and tired of "Blanket" statements

This has to do with religion. it does NOT have to do on whether or not i think religion is right, or if MY religion is right. it has to do with the treatment by other people about religion at all..so read at your own risk. i need to rant ( Read more... )

I'm with you coz. It drives me nuts that people who aren't acting like Christians are allowed to give Christians a bad name. I wish I could kick some of these holier than thou (although totally not acting holy) hate mongers out of my religion. But at the same time, it is amazing how people who supposedly hate these people for being closeminded haters are responded by being closeminded haters.

I've been sharing a similar view point lately - though not for myself. Recently met a rather nice Muslim man and sat there thinking about all the crazy crap we're told about Muslims. Not everyone in a religion or a group are jihad suicide bombers or Westboro Baptist, but because they get all the press, people start thinking that way.

It was like on facebook, when people started talking about giving their vote to McCain, because of Palin running around saying she was a Christian. I facepalmed on that one. Just because someone like that claims to be a Christian doesn't mean that you want them representing you and your beliefs in the government - because God only knows what direction that person could take them.

Extremism of any sort leads to others jumping to conclusions. There are plenty of good Christians out there getting a bad wrap for stupid asses like Westboro Baptist. I know you're one of the good ones, and I've been lucky to know both the good and the bad - I just stay friends with the good ones. ;) *hugs*

Agreed Sam (sorry it took me so long to get back to this). I tried to point this out after 9/11, but i guess the wounds were too fresh. yes, it was horrible. No, not everyone who was born arabic of any kind is like that. no, sorry, those third generation born americans do not deserve to be harrassed because some of their (not even) countrymen did this heinous act. did THEY do this act? NO.

i even tried to put it in terms they could understand since it was a friend of mine who spouted the same nonsense "All those of arabic descent must die for this act" ARGH

what i told him was "so if the irish had been responsible, would you kill me? I'm third generation born here, just like those you're advocating death for."

not surprisingly i NEVER got an answer.

and thanks sam!!! *HUGS* i really miss you!!! i tried to count it up. its been at minimum 6 years since we last saw you and efrain :(

Blanket statements suck. Some people are simply going to judge you no matter what.

they totally do. what frustrates me most though, are those who 'hate' blanket statements and then make one two seconds later and then don't even realize it when they get called on it or even apologize to the ones they offended when they did it. i can understand general ignorance. but this was just....this wasn't ignorance. y'know?
