That rope-wrapped pole is BRILLIANT. I may have to try such a thing for my guys. (Though I'll have to think about where to put it, since they can already get on top of some things I don't WANT them on top of.)

Interestingly, I've noticed that Gracie has been doing less scratching furniture and less climbing on other things since I gave her this. Of course, that could be a novelty factor.

If you decide to do it, drop me a line and I'll make suggestions about construction techniques. The wrapping with rope is the most expensive and difficult part of the process - or, not so much difficult as just slow.

I'm interested in this as well. We have a lot of high up useless places in the house that I could see being very interesting to Accio. And it might keep him from scratching stuff or jumping on our table.

Exactly. It's hard to be mad at him for just being a cat... but if you think like a cat and create a cat-friendly environment, he'll be happy and your stuff won't get shredded.
