Hawaii: Part 2

Jun 05, 2007 15:10

day three: Oahu
we had tickets to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center. http://www.polynesianculturalcenter.com/
it's basically a living museum where there are little "villages" that represent some of the major polynesian islands, including Hawaii, Samoa, Maori New Zealand (Aotearoa), Fiji, Tahiti, the Marquesas and Tonga.

a bus came to pick us up, and it was about an hour drive to the other side of the island to the center.

while driving, the bus tour guy told us about a lot of hawaiin legends. he also showed us where parts of various movies/shows were filmed.
i saw the dock from 50 first dates, the opening shot from jurassic park, and the port where the gilligan's island intro was filmed.

this is the tunnel that connect's Oahu's "dry side" to it's "wet side"

one of the first things we saw was the canoe pageant.
each canoe represented a different island (by dress, dance, music, etc)

visitors could walk around and "experience" each island.
when we went to Tahiti, an island girl taught us how to make these little fish out of leaves.

my mom, hard at work...

my finished fish

next batch of pictures = the luau!
