Lovely again! I enjoy the little hints that you throw into the chapters- blackmail rings, illustrations to poems, dark hints about fake deaths- about things that may or may not be relevant later. It's fun; the reader never knows what may turn out to be important! I also like the tension between John and Sherlock in the beginning of this chapter. It's nice to see characters acting human without going to either jerk- or bff-extremes.

And as a side note, I liked this bit, as well: "Civilians who had been injured in military action were often reluctant to let a soldier treat their wounds, for example." It's something I never thought about, but which is undoubtedly true. It must have been difficult for John to deal with situations like that.

This is an excellent piece of writing. It's refreshing to find a sherlock fic that is heavily-plot driven with a case being detailed at the same time, with the space necessary to allow Sherlock his deductions. too many people skip over this crucial part of the series! Anyways, keep it up, can't wait for the next chapter ; )
