I am of the opinion that art and beauty are brother and sister. They are both born of visual subjectivity, yet are not always hand in hand.

In the case of science, I beleive that a natural organism itself is beauty, but an organism that is developed by the hand of a human becomes art. Art does not exist solely in nature until a human can affect it's course. Take for example bonsais. Originally, these plants grew in nature. Extreme conditions caused them to take on the beautiful form that they had, and when man discovered them, he saw beauty. He also saw not art, but the inspiration for art, and attempted to replicate this beauty in his own garden.

When a scientist creates a drug that counteracts an infection in the human body, he is performing a type of art. He is affecting the body's natural course, and in this case, capturing beauty with his art.

Feel free to disagree, it's just the way I see it :)

Oh and a quote from Keates:

"Beauty is truth;
Truth, beauty.
That is all ye know on Earth
And all ye need to know".

I ponder deep, contemplative things to say to respond to poignant, thoughtful writing. Instead you get to find solace in the fact that I’ve added you to my friends list because I have enjoyed what I have read.

That's awesome; thankyou for your recognition...
I fear I will find no solace now; because I wonder what you thought..and how you may have stumbled upon this journal (I don't care..just like to know these things)

I suppose a lot of people would like to know what goes on in this big ass head of mine, but if I let them in, would they like what they found? Probably not so I’d rather leave it up to speculation and all manners of anonymity. I stumbled across your journal in the most curious way however. Well actually not really I cant remember how I really found it but I guess all that matters is I found it, et cetera, et cetera, fin.

there is this special that is from NOVA that was played on PBS and it is the most fascinating program that i've watched. it takes Einstein's theories of relativity and mixes it with quantum mechanics to stitch together two completely different sciences. it's definitely worth the time to look into.. possibly.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html

not many people can come to appreciate the everyday art that is around us at all times. people don't seem to realize that art isn't always contained inside a photograph, a painting, or a drawing for that matter. the fact that you are alive, my eyes are brown or the sun is rising above the horizon once again. which it will continue to do until it's cycle has come to an end, and everyday it will be just as beautiful and abstract as the day before.

the ability to have total control, yet total abstraction is the "definition" of art. i guess that would be life now wouldn't it?

Very elegant :)

I'm sorry, I don't think we know each other, but I happened to come across a post of yours. I then read your journal entry, and I believe elegant is the right word :) I like your style, and what you said is very true--at least, I personally, wouldn't leave you with a rhetoric; I happen to believe that there is beauty everywhere and in everything, and something as simple as how neurotransmitters travel can be fascinating. I think the main contrast between art and science lies in their development... science is about breaking things down to understand them, art is about putting them together. You can disagree if you wish ;)

I hope I'll see you around some time.
Take care

Totally; I mean really- who thought of neurotransmiters? I think thats an amazing one...what simple organism could've developed such an idea to allow the nervous system to evolve...go team Acetycholine and Dopamine!
