Food Catchup, April Edition

A couple of homemade dishes, and one decently tasty restaurant meal, courtesy of Revar!

I thought I'd try making chicken sukiyaki... It winds up being basically kind of a soup/stew of chicken and bok choy and sliced carrots, not really sukiyaki, but it's still tasty. I guess if I want to make a real sukiyaki, I need a lot more work. And multiple dishes.

This is sous vide flank steak.. Seasoned with some smoked paprika from Trader Joe's. It is *delicious*. It tastes like bacon-wrapped steak, except without needing actual bacon to enter the picture. Great stuff!

This is Japanese curry made with chicken, using Nijiya Japanese curry powder. It's pretty convenient and easy to make, but I'd suggest using beef if you're making this dish! I used chicken in an effort to make it healthier, and seasoned the chicken with smoked paprika, but after hours of cooking in the crockpot, I think the smoked paprika gets basically melted away. Despite the curry powder saying it's "medium hot", it's actually mild to my taste buds, and I'm a spice wimp compared to Dracosphynx.

It's still good, and I plan to try making this with beef next time!

Finally, courtesy of Revar, since Dracosphynx and I went down to help Tugrik pack up stuff for his upcoming move, we had lunch at BJ's Steakhouse and Brewpub.

Their house salad. The ginger honey dressing was very tasty!

Oops... I forgot to take a picture of this until I had eaten half. Just, um, picture the other half of the turkey dip sandwich, would you? It was quite good but I found myself wondering if the goodness was mostly the caramelized onions and melted mozzarella cheese-- Adamson's French Dip doesn't rely on such crutches to make a very tasty dip sandwich. The dip was a little salty but flavorful and distinctly poultry, not beef.

Hope Tugrik and Revar have a safe and easy move up north! We'll miss them.
