Over the last 20 years I've hosted a _lot_ of domains for people. Most of them I paid for out of pocket, as they were for friends and artists and fandom people who both didn't know the technical end and couldn't afford the fees. Just because I'm curious: did you call your bank to dispute the charge as well?

Things change over time I guess, but that bureaucratic mess sounds similar to a lot of other companies. I sat in a Wells Fargo bank for what most have been at least an hour to close my bank account, I almost want to say more because it was that ridiculous! The banker couldn't lift the freeze on my account. He was exasperated as I was as we kept bouncing on the phone from person to person, and each person would shrug and refer us to someone else ( ... )

Geez, I'd have reported them to the bank as a fraudulent charge. That sort of thing /is/ fraud, after all.

NSI is basically like the Bell System...at one time, they had their monopolies, they might have charged a bit much, but they offered good products and services. Now, they're a shadow of their former selves, their prices are just exorbitant, their customer service is terrible, their offerings are not that competitive, and they'll just happily take advantage of people who have been with them from the start, such as those elderly folks who continue to pay monthly rental fees on obsolete phones.
