The bf and I are going to be there from 30th March through 13th April, although we're doing the large city thing. 10-12 days of roadtripping sounds pretty awesome, though. Have you ever driven on the left side of the road?

Sounds like a whole mess of fun! You go enjoy yourself.

Would love to go to Japan at some point myself. But right now, that's a pipe-dream. Ah well.

This sounds like a really awesome way to handle a trip! Wish I could join you, but ours will (hopefully!) be happening soon enough anyway. :-) Two related things I'll be really curious to hear about your experiences with/see how you figure out: my impressions of the north are that functional English is substantially less common than it is in the cities; what are you looking at for handling any language barriers in that regard, and possibly-relatedly, are you looking at any 'short-term' tours? I'm trying to figure out what the best way of getting a local guide for just a couple of days without spluring on a full tour-group package are, and whether that's really a feasible or reasonable option. If that's a route you take, I'd love to know how it works for you!
