The worst thing about Helo was that he was so frakking right all the time.

This made me chuckle. He may not be right quite all of the time, but he seems to have a pretty balanced grasp on reality most of the time, and is definitely a nice foil to Kara's more explosive tendencies.

I think Helo's right a good deal of the time, not all of the time, but I think enough for Kara to think so.

Oh, poor Kara. Helo is pretty much always right. How annoying on top of everything else? She does need help because her "civilian life plan" is not the most workable, really.

I do like the fact that Lee hasn't forgiven or cut Kara slack. His conflict feels very real to me. :)

Thanks, I worked hard on Lee's arc to make sure it didn't feel too flat or unrealistic.

HELO TO THE RESCUE!

Have to say, even though I know what she went through and I don't even care for Sharon much at all, it's hard to have much pity for Kara here. She's so difficult and also so cold. I suppose it's no different than using Sam for sex, but somehow using him as the father of a child--of Lee's child--really seems much more cruel to both men. I am so glad canon did not go there.

ETA: You're doing a great job of depicting what a bad place she's in. It's hard to read, but that just means it's pretty realistic.

I also really liked Lee's little revelation that...well basically that she didn't abort the baby. That she protected it. <3

<3s make me happy, Tara! :D

It's really hard to write Kara in such a bad spot. It's putting me in a funk-tastic place emotionally. But hopefully now I can start working her way out of it! :D

So, I get that Kara is pretty fucked up and I'm glad that Lee finally thought about what she had been through, but seriously, her thinking that she will find Sam is way, way out of line and unfair to both men. Help is the only likable character her and please kill Dee ASAP...not for storytelling reasons but I just frakking hate her.

Well, I'm glad for the therapy thing but I'm looking forward to not hating everyone.

Dude, I'm not gonna kill Dee... there's no reason for it. In fact I feel really bad for her right now. She just found out she got cheated on in pretty much the harshest way possible. :( *snuggles Dee*

This passage really summarized for me what you are doing in this fic:

“Well, if you’d asked me this morning, I would have said she’s a ticking time bomb.” Cottle grimaced. Helo might go so far as to say he looked worried. “Now… she’s a bunch of shrapnel that needs to be put back together.”

Painful and dark and realistic considering the extent of the damage she experienced. I think it's a powerful ending to the chapter that Kara willingly accepts help. To me (at least) it's a sign that she actually does love her child... as questionable as that seems given some of her behaviour. I hope you have a therapist hidden in the Fleet somewhere. She needs one.

I found out, reading a transcript from Hero (because I watched that episode once and then decided I didn't give a flying frak about it and it just made me wait longer before UB) that there IS a shrink hidden in the fleet!!!
