I very unexpectedly got see the premiere of Game of Thrones season three tonight! I'd signed up for a premiere party at a fancy hotel in downtown Chicago about a month ago and totally forgot about it, and I also wasn't expecting to get in because free events like these are usually pretty crazy and operate on a first come, first serve principle. I ( Read more... )

Ooh, spoil me w/ your thoughts on the Robb and Catelyn relationship? I haven't read the books yet so I don't know how it's established there, but something about their scenes on the show irritates me so I admit I kind of want to feel justified. Anyway that sounds like a really cool event! I feel like nothing like that ever happens in Seattle, or if it does I have no idea how to find out about it, so I like to live vicariously through you when it comes to advance screenings of shit.

When I first watched season two I hadn't read the second book yet so when I heard ppl bitching about Robb/Catelyn online I was like "uh, k?" And then I read the book and was like "OH, I SEE WHAT YOU MEAN, THAT IS SOME RIPE BULLSHIT." Basically, they gave a lot of Catelyn's authority to Robb on the show. She's sort of the brains of the operation in Camp Stark and the show stripped her of all of her good decision making and made her Robb's glorified sidekick. In the book, it was Catelyn who had the idea of going to Renly's camp to forge a union between the houses, not Robb's.

But that at least I kind of understand. I know they've got to build Robb up as a believable contender for the crown, and I guess the easiest way to do that for the screen is to make him look like the one getting shit done. However, that doesn't excuse the back half of season two, where they basically made Robb hate her because she set Jaime free in hopes that she'd get Arya and Sansa back. In the book, she was operating under grief - she heard that Bran and ( ... )

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have even posted spoilers at all but, like, you know when something is fresh on your mind and you just GOTTA TALK ABOUT IT? I just felt like I had to, also because I'll probably forget to post when the show actually airs.

I UNDERSTAND YOUR PHRASE, NO WORRIES :D :D It was definitely an unexpected surprise! I didn't think I'd get in, let alone have such a cool experience!

The Dany plotline that's changed involves Jorah - but it's actually the Greybeard thing. I figured they'd have to change that a little for the show but I didn't expect them to do it so soon. Although I guess it's not that important, I just liked when his identity was a surprise!

Nope I think that's it. I mostly missed Jaime/Brienne - I was hoping they'd be in the premiere :( I can't wait for the Queen of Thorns either! She isn't there yet, but I'm sure she'll be in the second episode ( ... )

I'm so excited about the Jaime/Brienne stuff this year too. I caved and watched their first scene from 3.02 that was released and loved it. And luckily you'll be able to watch more of their stuff somewhat soon when the screeners come ( ... )

Yeah, it's like, the RW is tragic enough, we don't need Robb ignoring Catelyn until that happens. That'd be even MORE upsetting. So much wasted happy times :(

Even when I watched the Barristan scene during my re-watch I didn't remember it from before. There are just so many characters to process so his scene barely registers.

Yeah the Loras in Renly's armor thing didn't make a lot of sense to me when I first watched it. I think they do take a lot of liberties when they expect you to remember things like that. It wasn't until I read the book and they mentioned ~Renly's ghost~ that I went back and watched the scene and caught that.

Oooh I like what you're saying about Ros as Dontos!!! That makes total sense. They didn't necessarily hint at that during the premiere, although Ros is always with Littlefinger now. There's a really good scene on a dock between Shae and Ros that I LOVE. I just love how protective everyone is of Sansa ♥
