There's a way you can have LJ send you a message when someone friends you. I think it's under the notifications section :)

lol I don't think it's that new :) Also - if you have a paid account I know there used to be a feature that let you know if anyone unfriended you.

Still, you can go to Manage my friends and see who you list as a friend who doesn't reciprocate... it's in a nice chart like thing.
