I don't think a counselor would hurt. Maybe it would be good for him to be able to talk to someone else. And maybe they can help him learn some calming/coping mechanisms. I think spending more time with friends his age would help. And you know I'm a HUGE believer in Yoga ( ... )

i think the most important thing is for YOU to stay calm and positive. be his "zen master" and he will be encouraged by your positive energy. i know it sounds hippy and hokey, but it will help with your other strategies. be aware of your voice, tone, and body language when you're working with him on his homework. (it's really easy for adults to be sarcastic with out realizing it when they're working with kids.. i see teachers do it all the time and it doesn't help the kids).

i like julie's yoga idea. if you don't want to go to a class with him, maybe do a family time 20 minute video or something. i know they'll fight you on it .... "mom this is dumb" but maybe you can give them some kind of reward if they try it with you for a couple of weeks.

at my school the councelor taught the kids some calming stragegies - it was from a program called "brain gym". it worked for some kids.

I've been trying to watch the "tone" because I know I get so frustrated.. I've made an area at the kitchen table for homework. I've got paper and pens/pencils.. anything they might need.. SO.. we'll see how this week goes.

I need to check into the brain gym, and see what thats all about.. :)

thanks!

I do a combination of medicine with Blake's doctor and he also sees a counselor once a month to help with issues we are having. Blake loves them both and she's really good and gets on his level to help him understand how handle himself. If you lived near us, I could give you a name of a very good counselor but she's in Tyler. That reminds me it's time to get the appointments started again since school has started back.

Hope everything get better for both of you.
