What does he eat?

Am I over reacting?
Trey, has a lunch account (at school-duh) and I can go on line and put money on his lunch ticket.. very nice.. I don't have to worry about a check being lost etc..   I can also go on line and see how much he spends each day, it doesn't tell me what items he bought, just the cost..

Now, Middle School lunches run $2.00-$2.50 this ( Read more... )

Can they buy breakfast or snacks with that account or does this mean that he's buying all of that stuff at lunch? So if he spent 27.30 over the course of 8 days, that averages out to 3.41 per day. Not that money is the real issue.

I'm guessing junk. And possibly sharing junk with friends.

I haven't signed up yet, because I generally pack Lanie's lunches, but Kennedale shows the items as well as the money.

They can purchase breakfast.. but then it would say that.. plus I don't think he gets to school in time to have breakfast/bus schedule and stuff..

He's getting that all at lunch.

He has said before that he got a water or a Propel and Amys probably right.. hot cheetos and ice cream.. because those both scream Trey!

I doubt he's sharing.. Trey - Share Please!.. I'll just have to talk to him and see what he says..

In lieu of the spending account, can you give him CASH, so that you can control daily how much he can spend? Not that you can keep him from buying junk with whatever money you give him, but still.

FWIW, if he JUST spent the $2.50 per day, that money would only last 12 school days. And last I knew, school lunches were not very big. And he IS a teenage boy...

I could do that.. but that means I'd have to HAVE the cash. I NEVER have cash.

I can put a block on his account to stop certain purchases.. and he could have cash on occasion to get those "special" items.

I know the lunches aren't much.. and yes he is a teenage boy.. ALWAYS hungry.. and he's playing football, the do work out twice a day..

I'll have to talk to him and see what he's getting and go from there.

teacher experience.
ALL the kids eat hot cheetoes. i seriously asked the principal once if i could start a hot cheetoes ban petition as they were actually a classroom distraction. (kids sneek them out of the lunch room, fight over them, use them as bribes) plus, it's been said that the elimination of foods with artificial colors (esp. red) helps kids who suffer from ADHD.

however, the schools make CRAZY MAD loads of $$$ from the sale of "extras" so they aren't going to eliminate them any time soon.

I know our kids at school usually buy the "snacks" because they don't want to eat the school lunch. I can't tell you how many of our kids get chips, ice cream, etc.. and don't touch a thing on their tray. They end up with a lunch of junk and the meal gets thrown away :-) Check into that possibility?
