I was wondering why I kept seeing mentions of this topic here and there lately. I haven't looked into it at all, though. So it's resurfacing because Mike and his family were threatened, or because of something else?
tl;dr: speakers pulled out of Pax East because of how shittily the whole thing was handled, and then some PA fanboys started in the violent threats. Only once someone joked that maybe some of those threaths should be redirected towards Mike's family he told everyone to knock it off. But before that he was cracking jokes about the whole thing.
Snap. I didn't know speakers pulled out of PAX over it. Makes sense, though. As for the comic that started this, I didn't think it was terribly offensive, and I don't think Mike/Jerry meant for it to be, but if it turned out people were uncomfortable with it, wtf is the big deal about a quick apology and carrying on? I didn't follow any of the aftermath, so I don't know about the rationale for Mike's purported asshattery. Free speech? Or just good old fashioned sticking to your guns? We're cruel and dumb, humans.
I read your conversation at the link above. Interesting stuff.
