Elegant creature, beautiful photo.

Poor canaries, they didn't even have some sort of little house to hide in?

As for us, the white pelicans are still here as of last week. They usually hang around til just before Easter, regardless of when the holiday falls. The huge flocks of drunken robins have come and gone. There is another pair of cardinals hanging around our hedge and the little orange tree in our backyard, hope they decide to nest in the tree and not the hedge (better cover.) Saw another bald eagle when I brought in the trash bin a couple of days ago. Had a half dozen white ibis working over our front lawn yesterday morning *^_^*

Oh, and it seems we've got a mole again. Keep finding big piles of dirt scattered here and there in the yard. Nope, have no intention of getting rid of the critter.

Saw the chap up at the hall doing his mole catching. He showed me a few of the dead ones. It's a sad business, especially like nearly all species of wildlife their numbers seem to be dropping. I have to reconcile myself in part that it's done because there are cattle in the park, and apparently if they tread on and collapse a mole's tunnel it can really injure the cow. If it's true, it's difficult to argue too heavily in favour of leaving the moles be.
Still never seen a live one.

Not sure about the canaries, can't really see into the aviary. We just tend to hear the song quite a lot.

Sadly, that's true about the moles, but I don't have cattle, horses or sheep to worry about. I also don't care about impressing the neighbors with my lawn or yard. That means no pesticides or herbicides, so it's perfectly safe for any creature who wants to pay me a visit.

Ooops, must correct that a bit. While we don't use herbicides (we love our weeds, they're all native plants) we do use stuff to keep away termites, carpenter ants, and fire ants. The first two are applied directly around the base of the house, the other on the mounds when they appear.
