Same old, same old really. Overworked again, five team members left in the last two weeks, out of around 12 of us. It used to be that people would take the relative earning penalty in working for a charity in nice surroundings, that economy no longer really exists, and like anywhere else we were already expected to do more with less prior to these ( Read more... )

First the pictures...that looks unreal, it's so beautiful. Do bluebells have a scent?

I can only guess that inflation is forcing some of your co-workers to choose better paying jobs. That really sucks, though. It's so unfair to you and your team.

I'm sorry to hear how unlikely the China trip may be. This damn virus...it's almost unbelievable, how many people are getting hurt by this, and in so many ways other than the illness itself.

We're still being uber-cautious. Still doing the masks, the handwashing, avoiding restaurants and such. It's like being stuck in one of those dystopian scifi novels I read years ago.

Government lying? Don't they all? I'm sure you've heard the old line about how do you know if a politician is lying? Their lips are moving.

I think the bluebells are supposed to have a faint sweet smell, those things mostly pass me by though, and they're only really known for their colour.

The thing about the current government isn't just the lying, that's to be expected, it's the increasing speed at which they're ripping up all kinds of the democratic norms and processes just keep themselves in power for another few months, then another few more, no shame at all about it.
It's properly scary stuff paving the way for a genuine dictatorship in a decade or two, it's never really been seen before in Britain. Much as there is a love-hate thing over Thatcher depending on your politics, you knew she wasn't out to literally wreck our democracy.

I can see why they're mostly know for their color. That brilliant blue is almost unnatural.

I also share your concerns about the future, for both our governments. I don't understand what's going on, why suddenly it's okay for these power grabs. In our case, it's coming from both the left and the right, and the viciousness and extremity is unnerving.

Fortunately, we do have a little more hope in the UK. I'm not usually partial to any politician but the current opposition leader is an unusually respectable public figure, which may very well be the reason he won't be successful. There's a real reverse-snobbery against decency in public life these days, such is the madness we live in.

The bluebells have been replaced by wild garlic now. Being white it doesn't have the same cachet, the strong oniony smell that hangs in the woodland is something else though. We have a lot of it in our woodland version of a garden and Wenyu cooks with it often.
