Character Name: Zheng Kai Lin
Character's Age: 21
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII//Last Order//Before Crisis

History: Growing up in a moderately well off family, no one ever expected anything much out of Kai Lin. She is second out of three siblings, and when young, always found herself pushed aside in favour of her older brother and younger sister, both of whom her parents favoured far more than they did her. She attended the same schools as them, outdoing both siblings academically. Outside of school, Kai Lin was an active member of all the clubs and societies she joined. She was in many ways a model student, hardworking, determined and above all, intelligent. In spite of, or perhaps because of this, no one really anticipated the actions she took when she turned sixteen.

To the surprise of her parents and relatives, Kai Lin suggested that she quit schooling and start work immediately. She reasoned (accurately enough) that to support their three children's further studies was something her parents would not be easily able to afford and that she could earn just as much money without a degree. Her parents questioned her as to what line of work she could enter that would ensure her such a good income- and the answer, although not to their liking, was one they could not dissuade their daughter from.

With the (reluctant) blessings of her parents, Kai Lin started out working for a small operative group of mercenaries. She took whatever jobs she could and carried them out to the best of her abilities, and the leader of the group got a cut of her pay. Soon enough, she gained a reputation for being extremely capable and decided to strike it out on her own, going completely freelance. By this time, her reputation preceded her, and getting jobs was never any difficulty.

Because of her skills, she was approached several times by Shinra to join SOLDIER, offers which were all declined, albeit politely. As it was, Kai Lin had little trouble with her work, and she preferred the flexibility that being a freelancing mercenary offered. The offers and polite declinations continued, until she was approached eventually not to join SOLDIER, but instead, to enter the ranks of the Turks.

The pay was certainly far more attractive than the money she brought in for her family as a mercenary, and the mission system was flexible enough for her liking. Mainly due to those two reasons, Kai Lin started working as a Turk at nineteen. She has worked for the Turks for two years, and her previous experience has served her well. More than able to handle most, if not all of the work put before her, Kai Lin continues to serve Rufus Shinra to the best of her ability.

Personality: A professional when it comes to work, Kai Lin applies herself to anything she has to do with professionalism and dedication. She is businesslike to a fault, and if she sees anything wrong then she will correct herself, immediately- something that has prevented her from failing in her work. She is human, and will make mistakes, but she will not allow herself to let them get out of hand, correcting them with as little fuss as possible.

Outside of work, she faces anything else with practically the same attitude that she holds towards her work. Kai Lin keeps her family separate from her job. Although she still retains ties with them, which include the customary visit on important days and the occasional letter, she is not particularly close to any member of her family. A portion of her salary goes to them to pay their bills, but she lives alone in a small rental apartment where she also keeps her weapons and files.

Although she rarely displays it, Kai Lin does actually possess a sense of humour, although it does tend towards the cynical and sarcastic side. She does not let it show when she is at work, though, since she feels that there is always the possibility, no matter how small, that such a thing could interfere in the success and failure of a mission.

Other Information: Kai Lin's preferred mode of combat is close range, hand to hand combat. She is highly skilled in martial arts as she was trained from young in this (one of the few things she managed to get her parents to agree to). Her style of fighting is acrobatic, and combines speed, agility and lethality. However, just because this is her preferred mode of combat does not mean that she is weak in any other areas. Kai Lin can handle almost any type of gun, rifle or explosive with ease, thanks to her work as a mercenary.

If she feels particularly strongly about something, Kai Lin tends to lapse into using Chinese, the language she grew up with and is most comfortable expressing herself in. She is quite aware that not everyone else understand her, and as such, she tries not to do as such in the presence of others, since it would be impolite. However, she does curse fluently in dialect whenever upset.

With regards to her family, Kai Lin does still have ties with them, but does not mention them when at work, so it is unlikely that many know of her relations. Her brother's name is Wei Liang, her sister's Kai Yu. Her brother works in the government as a low level clerk, whereas her sister is still completing her education.

In canon: Player E is a mercenary recruited into the Turks when Veld decides that they are lacking the required manpower to deal with AVALANCHE. As a mercenary, Player E has seen a lot of battle, and is certainly used to taking orders, so her adjustment into the Turks is easier than it has been for some. A thoroughly businesslike woman on a mission, she gets her work done with a minimum of fuss. She is level headed, alert and perceptive, and is able to assess a situation and take the most prudent course of action.

She uses a special kind of attack style that involves twisting herself in the air mid-jump and kicking out at her opponents. When a player executes the attack just right, she can run through a series of attacks in succession, leaving her opponents dazed and often incapacitated. (taken from Gunshot Romance)
