2) German probably won't be as bad as you think; it's supposedly the language most similar to English. If you want, I can email my friend Allison about what German books are easy for learning. She's pretty fluent, I think. (She's been taking classes, goes to German camp, and is studying there for a year from fall '08 to spring '09).
