My Rufus muse needs to vent. The man wants to take a trip to Nibelheim. Then, he wants me to write a flashback.

What. The. Hell.

So here you go folks, little Rufus. This may be posted at Fall of Jupiter sometime soon.

"Sir, the structure has been cleared of monsters, as you asked. You may enter now."

"..Thank you Tseng; I want to go alone though; you may wait in your respective rooms.."

"..Yes, Shacho."

When Rufus placed his hand on the old, tarnished handle of the entrance doors, he could not help but close his eyes. It had been a long time since his last visit to the place. Turning the elaborate handle, the young man entered the mansion, and when he opened his eyes, he fell completely silent. Closing the door behind him, he allowed his blue eyes to capture the elder home. It wasn't as grand as it used to be; time had taken it's toll on the poor girl. But, throughout the ages, Rufus was pleased that she, at least, held some glimmer of her former glory. Of course, the large chandelier was gone, and many of the old, glass lamp shades were cracked, or completely destroyed. No doubt, the monsters had caused most of the damage.

Spread his arms, the young Shinra waltzed forward, his eyes fluttering shut. And when his fingers slid across the many pieces of furniture, he could not help but fall into a day dream. The past flooded his senses, and soon he was standing in the center of the complex, his mind bubbling with the past.

Nibelheim Calender Year; 1991

It was Christmas break, and he had just finished his calculus homework, when it happened. Just like always, his father and his other had started shouting in the hallway. Their voices rose and fell in the dark, cold corridor, and Rufus did all in his power to block the noise out by humming a song his mother taught him.

"Dancing bears, painted wings.."

"DO NOT RAISE YOUR VOICE TO ME, YOU WOMAN. You're just a pathetic little whore. GO NOW. GO!"

Rufus pushed his palms against his ears, and shook his head furiously. He was hurting her. He had heard his dirty hand hit her skin, but he couldn't do anything. Last time he spoke up, he received a true beating for his father figure, then his mother returned to his room with a busted lip.

When the loud noises stopped, and his door opened, Rufus hoped down from his chair. His mother had just entered the room, her hand covering the side of her face. And when she saw Rufus, she tried hard to smile.

"..My little Rufus. Oh my boy, did you hear all of that? I'm sorry. Daddy was...sad that I fell down."

Narrowing his eyes, the young boy walked up to his mother, and pulled her hand away from her, now, inflamed eye. Touching the wound ever so gently, the young Shinra sighed, and hurried over to a table at the opposite end of the table. Snatching a wash cloth from the warmed bowel of water, the boy returned and began dabbing the wound.

And that was when Juliana began sobbing. Stopping, Rufus watched her carefully.

"..Mom?"

"Oh, I'm so sorry my little angel. I'm so sorry.."

Wiping away her tears, Rufus smiled.

"...I love you, Mom."
