for anzac day, this year i chose to travel to the nations capital, canberra.

the sunday was filled with jugger in glebe park, competing against the locals, playing alongside the locals and having a bbq with the locals.

playing against the locals involved a few differences from the regular game, as i didn't bring any weapons(still haven't figured out how to fit the hammer into the overhead locker) and they lay out the field a little differently. the canberra players tactics were reasonable with the main idea being split the group to overpower them. having gotten used to their usual chain players, they were caught by surprise a few times and further training helped give them a few pointers. i hope they can make it up to the brisbane field, some time, to see a few other techniques. i really need to work more on my staff/shtabe work before we make it to germany, however...

after a two hour nap on the floor of host 1, we went to dinner at jimmy's, followed by drinks at king o'malleys, named after the legendary politician, where they have executive chairs that i could easily run an empire of evil from. sleep followed.

monday was breakfast of bbq left overs, more jugger and then i caught up with gloomer, which was awesome, at a boobquake gathering, also in glebe park... which was awesome! it was here that i, once more, put forward my theory of there being some kind of cloning facility in canberra, as i kept seeing people that i "know" when i'm wandering about. more ex-brisbane people turned up and the sun disappeared so we moseyed off to the phoenix, where i will be spending a lot more time, in future visits. it was here that we got word of the 6.7 quake that hit taiwan. put 'em away, ladies...

a kind offer of food with a bed was accepted and after a night of varied conversations from travel plans to the students revolution and arms profiteering(amazing how some conversations in washington d.c. and canberra blur...) before more blissful sleep.

the next day, left to my own devices, i wandered the streets to get bus information and to discover a saying they have in canberra... "it's not winter until after anzac day." the gist being that if you wear thermals or put on the electric blanket, before then, you're an enormous wussbag. suffice to say, winter had arrived so i sought out the heating of public building with free entry.

at the national gallery i was caught by certain works, such as:the national portrait gallery is just across the way, so i wandered there for a bit looking at lots of old white people as well as sporting types. stand outs, for me:after that, it was two bus timetable tag until i got to the airport with ten minutes check-in time spare and it was back to brisbane. beard conditioned after the dreadfully dry conditions, despite the rains and overcast nature and i headed off to the mana bar.

for those that don't know the mana bar is a 50 person capacity computer gaming bar that is run in the fortitude valley area of brisbane. with five plasma screens connected to both a wii and an x-box 360, each.

it was quite the topic of conversation, while i was in canberra, actually, with many other places across australia crying out for a similar set up... but, for now, it's a brisbane only thing.

i've been playing the still-in-development, not-released-to-the -public, is-that-a-freaking-developers-box-on-the-shelf-? multiplayer raskulls and castle crashers with an almost religious fervour. one of the owners, last night, told me that i have to start playing with other profiles on the system, so that the game doesn't suffer from one player being on level 35 while others are running about on level 1-5...

the fiend
ordered to play games. huzzah!
