springfield is an area of jacksonville most people avoid, because all attempts to gentrify it are thwarted by gunshots and car break-ins. the kids who used to live in riverside (artsy, historical neighborhood) are now 30something, and moving to springfield for renovation projects. and getting the shit kicked out of them.

eventually, it might pick up, but for the time being, it's one of those "interesting," if not entirely safe, areas of town. Hence the cheapass lofts that look amazing, and are amazing, provided you never walk outside.
