Two out of Three : 10
It was all pretty routine, really. Heero had come over to help Duo move some furniture and setup a new TV, and when they were done, Heero sat down on the sofa to survey their work, and Duo plopped down next to him. It was even pretty routine that Duo landed close enough that their legs were practically touching.
It would be an overstatement to call it 'routine' that they happened to face each other, and their eyes locked, and the moment was heavy with potential, though not especially overstatement to say that their routine would have been to smile shyly and turn away. But something was different this afternoon, and so they started kissing, which was not routine at all, though with the comfortable way they slid into it, perhaps you wouldn't be able to tell that this was the first time that had happened.
Less than a minute had passed -- an extremely pleasant minute, Heero thought -- before Duo's eyes flew open and he pulled away. Duo pointed a finger at him accusingly and said, "No."
Heero was left blinking. His heart thudded somewhere in the pit of his stomach for a moment before he pulled his wits together and observed that Duo did not appear to be pissed. He had that mildly hilarious, mildly adorable pissy look he sometimes got, but he was not pissed. That, and the fact that Heero was confident that Duo had, a moment ago, been participating very willingly and rather thoroughly, put him back on solid ground. "What?"
"No. I was supposed to ask you out first!"
"Were you?"
"Yes! I had this whole thing planned! I was going to ask you to stay for dinner."
"We'd already agreed that you were going to feed me."
"And then I was going to bring up the show this weekend."
"Which we're already going to, aren't we?"
Duo shook his head impatiently. "Regardless. Long story, short, and then we were supposed to kiss. You were not supposed to kiss me before that."
Heero was very certain that the kiss had been a mutual endeavor, but he wouldn't fuss over the details. "Alright, well, that ship has launched, so... should I just ask you out now?"
"No. You kissed me, so I get to ask you out."
Okay, so he was going to quibble the details. "We kissed each other."
"I'll play you for it." He held out his fist.
Heero rolled his eyes but did the same. He won, paper over rock.
"Two out of three!" Duo said.
He took his paper, wrapped Duo's rock, and brought their hands down to the sofa. "Duo."
Duo held his eye contact for a few seconds before he collapsed back against the sofa cushions with a helpless laugh. "Okay, fine. Plans not lasting past the first battle and all that shit. I get it. I just..." He unfurled his rock and twined their fingers together loosely. "This is important. You're important. You always remind me that important things should not be undertaken without thorough planning."
"To identify possible points of failure, and mitigate them before they become an issue. Yes. But... I've never really seen any possible points of failure here. Well. Possible, maybe, but not probable."
"Is it not highly probable that I might completely over-complicate things?"
Heero shrugged. "I'm used to that, and well-equipped to deal with it at this point."
"Yeah. Sorry if I gave you a heart attack with that 'no'."
"Well." He tugged on their hands. "Show me 'yes', then."
"You gonna go out with me?"
Heero chuckled. "Yes."
"Then..." Duo got them back into proper kissing position. "Yes. Yes. And yes...."
