As usual, for questions I'm here!

!! Sorry, I couldn't get back the original caps because I made this icon for a flash contest at anon_icon so I didn't actually saved it. Sorry sorry!.
Anyway, as usual: black 100*100px canvas and the images pasted into ot, once I decided what kind of crop I wanted I started working. Open a new curve layer, with no point and set it on screen.

Then, with a white brush, paint on the sides of ther head, right where's the background, I normally use soft rounded brush with little dimension 30-35px. This white layer doesn NOT need the gaussian blur so just leave it as it is!

But then add another one, paint some stripes, and use the gaussian blur to give some light (gaussian blur at 4)
Duplicate your base, drag it on top and set it on softlight to have a nice warm base

Now I painted some hair strands with the tablet: hard round brush 3px with "Shape dynamics" set on "pen pressure"; for the hair strands I usually pick colours over the background, especially picking a ligher colour for the strands over ther forhead and face, it's nice and it works good for me.

Then I've used a gradient map layer set on softlight, these are the three colors I've used (left to right)
#965a37 #cf8452 #a15d37, as I said, this layer goes on softlight.

Last step before contrasting, I've picked up my brush and with this color #e7dcc1 I've painted some stripes at the top right angle, used some gussian blur (4) and then set the layer on screen at 28% fill.

To sharp I use the "Smart Sharpen" tool because it works good for me, these are the number I've used for this specific icon:
amount: 31 / radius: 0,3 / remove: gaussian blur / more accuret was on

DONE!

Open a black 100*100 canvas and paste the image inside, as usual, I chosed what kind of crop I wanted and Keira's neck was just too appealing to be ignored so I went there. Right away I duplicated the base and set it on screen at 100% to make it clearer.
Then I duplicated it once again and set it on softlight (100%) to get some shadows and deep colours!

I played with colour palance using these numbers (this layer was set on normal)
midtones: 5 / -20 / -12
shadows: -1 / 80 / -20

Okay, curves now, this will be long and a bit tedious, forgive me, I can't even print my screen because it doesn't work. Stupid computer.
FOR GENERAL I usually put the number in this order: OUTPUT / INPUT so I won't specify it further!
RGB: 61 / 67 - 137 / 132
RED: 79 / 77 - 135 / 140
GREEN: 66 / 89 - 133 / 142
BLUE: 97 / 61 - 150 / 105

Now a Selective color layer (on normal)
RED: 0 / 11 / -35 / -7
YELLOW: 100 / -43 / 13 / 11
WHITE: 0 / 0 / -10 / -19

At this point with a soft rounded brush I've painted on the left side of the icon with this color #ffe30b and I set the layer on softlight (100%) then I duplicated it and set it on screen at 39%

Then on a new layer I've used three colors with a soft rounded brush to paint on the left side (don't ask why, I don't remember what I was thinking XD) these are the exadecimal of the colours, and down here you can see how it looks like (from bottom to top: #1e99bb, #f1b912, #ed7927) this layer is set on softlight.

Duplicate it and set it on screen at 19% fill and you're done!
