all my bells are ringing just for you

Serena was utterly taken with the notion of decorating for Christmas. At home, a place like the Palace wouldn't even allow a tree in their suite, and when they'd been in their own townhouses, back before her mother's break up with Claus had been cause for renovation, their had been professionals to call, people who made their living knowing just ( Read more... )

Beat had been contemplatin' whether or not he wanted to brave the cold to find somethin' to do. He eventually did will himself to start gettin' ready, an' he was jus' about to put his coat on when he heard the knock. Headin' over, he opened up the door, not surprised in the least to see Serena. It was the tree next to her that made him kinda confused.

"I didn't hear no tree fall," he said outloud, lookin' 'round to see if he saw a stump. It didn't even occur to him that she'd bring one over.

"It didn't fall over here," Serena said, cheerful still, moreso even than she actually felt. It struck here now that there was more than one flaw in this plan. As ever, she'd acted on impulse, figuring things out only after the fact. The fact that she was, in a way, making the same gesture Dan had made toward her right before everything fell apart was one she had missed. Now it seemed like a bad sign. "I just thought... just because you're here and not home, there's no reason you shouldn't have a Christmas tree." Not that she even knew how to make one stay put. Something could be figured out, surely.

Beat jus' stared at her a long moment before findin' himself unable to do anythin' but grin.

"You brought me a Christmas tree?" he asked, soundin' a little surprised. He hadn't even considered havin' one of his own. The holiday was leavin' him feelin' a little down, anyway, all things considered. Still, with her lookin' so excited, he couldn't quite help but be interested in the idea, too.

He headed over to look at it, an' it didn't take long for him to look up at her again. "This is pretty tight, Serena. You wanna help me bring this in?"

How she got it there would be somethin' he'd ask later.

Not a little relieved to see he was pleased after all, Serena nodded, beaming. "Yes," she said, rolling up onto the balls of her feet, teeth scraping over her lower lip as she reached out for it. All selfish motivations for the tree aside, it was enough that he liked it. She still had no idea what she could do for a proper Christmas present, but this seemed like a start. "Yes. Let's get it - and me - inside. It's cold out here."

What they'd do to decorate it, she wasn't yet sure. Like the rest of it, though, that could be figured out as she went. She just had to be sure it would go through the door first. Tipping her head to the side, she eyed it, calculating.
