[for Beat]

It was the different part that Serena kept getting caught on. She'd done a lot and seen a lot, wasn't convinced she had many firsts left to her name, but for all the men she'd been with, she'd never actually celebrated Valentine's before. In school, it had been a steady stream of ornate cards, overblown bouquets of hothouse orchids, jewelry that, ( Read more... )

Beat was vaguely aware things worked differently than how he was used to. Girls were supposed to give the presents, not him, an' when he found out it was him that hadda do things, he quickly got stuck. Was he supposed to give more than he was expected to give on White Day? Less? He wasn't even sure if she liked chocolate or not, an' that was the only thing comin' to mind for him. Hand slipping up to his shoulder, Serena grinned when she eased back. "Hey yourself," she said. In a way, it felt like doing things in reverse, getting a little tangled up over something as basic as a date when they'd already been together so long, but it had never really been the kind of thing they did. The island was short on opportunities, and anyway, she was the sort to dive headlong into these things. At least with him, they'd already had solid ground from which to start.

He was pretty sure he could ever think of a time when he'd say that to her, 'specially on a day like this.

"Naw, you got me for the rest of the night," he assured, mouth turnin' up into a small grin. He eventually stepped back from her, motionin' her to follow as he started headin' towards the door of his hut. "Got somethin' for you in the hut, though, 'fore we go."

"Okay," Serena said, following after him with crossed arms and a look of amused uncertainty. It wasn't like there was anywhere here to pick up gifts of any kind, so she hadn't been expecting anything at all unless someone had managed to find the secret hidden jungle location of Tiffany's, but she certainly wasn't about to turn anything down. Brushing her hair back behind her ear, she shook her head and smiled. "You know, you didn't have to. Having you for the rest of the night is enough."
