Serena made a point of seeing her friends as often as possible - not all of them on any given day, because even here, she had only so much time, but still she managed to say hello with some regularity. It didn't occur to her to notice at first, but when a couple days went by without her seeing any sign of Jeremy, she made her way to the cave where ( Read more... )

Life had been surprisingly crazy for Jaye Tyler recently. She didn't want to admit it, especially after Isabel had gone OFF about her not actually being a non-joiner. Her life had somehow become full of people. The less she thought about it though, the less it bothered her, and in a counter-intuitive STROKE OF GENIUS, she had decided to visit Jeremy.

Why? Because there was a BALL coming up. And if was wasn't a Non-Joiner, then she would be a Not Non-Joiner with Not Heath Ledger. She doubted anyone else would take HER inviting them to a BALL seriously anyway.

Strangely enough, when she strolled into what she THOUGHT was Jeremy's cave, Jaye only found a blond chick. "Shit, sorry, wrong cave," she said quickly, turning on one heel to head back out. Only she stopped, turned again, and really looked at their surroundings.

"No... Right cave. Where's Jeremy?"

The arrival of the other girl surprised Serena out of her thoughts, and it took her a moment of standing open-mouthed before she could answer. "I... don't know," she said. "I came by to visit and he wasn't here, so I was just waiting a little. But it is the right cave."

She was starting to wonder if it were more a matter of if he came back rather than when, but she didn't want to panic anyone else just yet.

Except that she really couldn't keep it to herself. "He couldn't just be... gone. Right?"

Dammit. Shit and emotions were so much easier to deny when no one MENTIONED them. But that had to be practically the first thing out of this chick's mouth, didn't it?

Jaye froze, not wanting to answer at all. But the longer she stood there, just looking at his stuff, feeling the emptiness of the cave, flipping through her mind trying to remember the last time she saw Jeremy, heard of him, the more REAL the possibility of him disappearing became.

"Of course he could just be GONE," she snapped, shooting the other girl a dark glare. "That's what happens here. People disappear, ESPECIALLY once you've gotten used to having them around."

Startled, Serena just stared at her. After a lifetime of being friends with Blair, she was more than used to being glared at, but she never expected total strangers to yell at her.

"Well, how would you know?" she asked, bristling a little. "If that's the case, I mean." She didn't want to jump to conclusions. She didn't even like to think it was really possible. It obviously rubbed the other girl the wrong way, though, which was what she got for snapping like that. "I just saw him the other day."
