10 Settings Challenge: #8 - Museum

Jongwoon wakes up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the apartment. Still half asleep, he somehow manages to walk to the kitchen.

Strange. There was no one around. Then he remembers that only Kyuhyun and himself have no schedules - Sungmin and Eunhyuk are both busy. He assumes that Kyuhyun is still in bed after gaming all night. He had heard Kyuhyun enter his bedroom at 4 in the morning (Jongwoon didn’t sleep well when he knew that there were members who weren’t home yet). He reminds himself to tell the maknae to sleep more - it wasn’t good for Kyuhyun’s health to sleep late, nor was it good for his own since he can’t sleep without knowing Kyuhyun was back.

Jongwoon reaches for the coffee pot, and realizes that there’s a yellow post-it note on it:

“Good morning hyung! Hope you had a good sleep last night keke. Instruction #1: On the piano, there’s a map. Follow it to the location. You will receive more instructions there.”

Jongwoon re-reads the message, just to make sure that he understood it properly. It looked like Kyuhyun’s writing, but he’s not 100% sure. He takes a sip of his coffee, and heads to the piano. Sure enough, there was a map lying on the piano. He sees a building circled in red, as well as two other post-it notes. One with the letter L on it, and the other:

“Hyung! I’m glad you decided to listen to the other note! Instruction #2: Go to the location circled in red on the map, and collect all the letters for a secret message! If you don’t, I won’t come home tonight and you won’t be able to sleep. I’ll wait at a secret location. Come find me keke. ^^”

Jongwoon stares at the post-it in disbelief. Kyuhyun. It had to be. Who else would threaten him like that? He shakes his head, and dials Kyuhyun’s number.
“Hello?”
“Cho Kyuhyun, what is this?”
“Come find me hyung, and then you’ll know! Starting now, you’re not allowed to call me! I’ll only wait until 5pm, so you better hurry up!”
The click from the other end of the line mocks Jongwoon as he realizes Kyuhyun hung up on him.
“Ya, this kid…” He stares at the note in his hand, and smiles slightly. Kyuhyun didn’t use honorifics AND hung up on him. The poor maknae had no idea what Jongwoon was planning on doing to him once he hunted him down.

---

Jongwoon stares at the building in front of him and double-checks the address. Seoul Museum of Art. He walks into the building, and looks around. Just as he wonders what he’s supposed to do now, he spots a yellow post-it by the desk with all the pamphlets.

“I’m glad you made it! Are you ready for an artistic adventure hyung? You better be! So far you’ve collected 2/8 letters. 6 more to go! Instruction #3: Find some chairs for us to sit on.”

As the note promised, letter number 2. I.

Jongwoon picks up a map of the museum, and flicks through, while thinking about the letters. I and L. He shakes his head, and decides to play along. He’ll make Kyuhyun pay for all this trouble later. He thinks about the clue. Chairs. Us. He sees the list of artworks, and one catches his attention. “Two Chairs” by Mun Hak-Jin.

---

As expected, the two post-it notes are found by the painting. The letter E. I, L and E. 3 down, 5 more to go. Jongwoon sighs, and shifts his attention to the second clue:

“Well done! Now, Instruction #4: Visit the circus from Henry’s hometown.”

Jongwoon looks at the pamphlet again, but he has no idea what Kyuhyun is talking about. Henry? Canada? He has no idea, and so he decides to ask the tour guide. After all, Kyuhyun never mentioned anything about not asking other people.

“Excuse me, miss?”
“Hi, can I help you?”
“Yes, I’d like to know if there’s any work of art here that has to do with a circus? Or Canada?”
“Hm. Oh! You must be talking about Chun Kyung-Ja’s Canadian Circus! It’s on the 2nd floor of the museum, in the Chun Kyung-Ja hall.”

Jongwoon thanks the tour guide, and heads to the second floor.

---

“I’m impressed you found this - you asked the tour guide didn’t you? >:( You got here though! That’s all that matters. Instruction #5: You must be hungry now right? Go get some food”

The letter O. Half of the letters have been found. Jongwoon sighs. It is 2:30pm already, and he hadn’t eaten all morning. He is glad his maknae had thought about food, but he still has no idea what is going on in the mind of Cho Kyuhyun.

“And the members always accuse me of being weird. Hmph.”

He looks at the map of the museum, and realizes that there’s a canteen on the fourth floor.

---

He takes his time as he walks up to the fourth floor, admiring the museum’s architecture. He still has a bit of time before it turns 5pm, and he plans on making Kyuhyun wait in this secret spot of his. He continues looking around the displays in the corridors. It’s no wonder that Kyuhyun chose this museum - the art is amazing, and the place is beautiful. Jongwoon imagines a younger Kyuhyun spending a lot of time here as a student, examining all the art, and being critical of the pieces. He laughs at the image of Kyuhyun criticizing famous artists.

He arrives at the cafeteria eventually, and buys something to eat. As he passes the cashier, the boy asks if he’s Jongwoon. He nods, hoping that the boy didn’t realize he’s from Super Junior, but the boy just hands him two yellow post-it notes.

Jongwoon thanks the boy, and proceeds to stare at the letters he’s collected: L, I, E, O and O again. He still has no idea what the letters are meant to say. 3 more post-its to collect before he can figure out why Kyuhyun led him to this museum.

“Hope you enjoy your food ^^ But after you eat, come find the 6th letter! Instruction #6: Find the spot where natural light hits the center.”

He remembers vaguely reading about this in the descriptions of the exhibition halls. He skims through the guidebook again. The description of the fourth exhibition room catches his eye. There’s a pyramid shaped window that allows natural light to showcase the center of the room.

It sounds like where Kyuhyun wants Jongwoon to go next.

---

He walks into the room, surprised by how many children there were running around examining the photos. He smiles as he sees a young boy hold the hand of his mother, reminiscing his own childhood.

Suddenly, he sees a random photo of Super Junior taped to the wall among all the other art pieces. He sighs. Only Kyuhyun would think of doing something like this. He walks over, and takes the photo down. Sure enough, there are two post-it notes underneath:

“Two more to go! I hope you’re enjoying this adventure hyung keke. Instruction #7: We need a ceramic vase in our dorm - maybe you should make one. Make sure you get to the location by 3:30pm”

Jongwoon adds the letter V to his collection. He thinks he knows what Kyuhyun’s message is, but he’s still not completely confident. He looks at his watch. It’s 3:25pm already. He curses loudly, receiving the glare of many mothers, and he apologizes and quickly exits the room.

He remembers that classes were held in the basement, so he rushes towards the esclators.

---

He arrives at the classroom at 3:35pm. Jongwoon peeks into the classroom, and a teacher warmly welcomes him.

“Kim Jongwoon? We’ve been expecting you. Come and join the class”

He apologizes for being late, and sits down with the other people. Trust Kyuhyun to book a class for him with 10-year-old children.

The teacher goes through the process of how to mould the clay, and make a small heart-shaped jar.
“You can give this jar to your loved one, and you will both have a long and loving relationship.”
Jongwoon thinks of Kyuhyun when he makes the heart.

After the class finishes, the teacher tells Jongwoon to stay behind. She fumbles around in her drawer, and takes out two post-it notes. She winks at Jongwoon, and tells him he’s a lucky guy. Jongwoon thanks the teacher, even though he’s slightly confused. He quickly reads the post-it note:

“Nearly there - now it’s time to find where I’m hidden! Instruction #8: The fresh air outside is pretty nice, and I’m enjoying the company of some people. But they won’t talk to me. Come talk to me so I won’t be lonely? Keke.”

“Excuse me, teacher? Where is he?”
“I can’t tell you the exhibition name, but you might want to check out the family yard of Seoul forest.”
“Thank you so much!”

The teacher chuckles as Jongwoon rushes out.
“Ah, young love. How sweet.”

---

On the way to find Kyuhyun, Jongwoon realizes that he’s supposed to go to eco sculptures exhibition. He looks at the letters, and rearranges them. The last letter he received was Y:

I LOVE YO

Jongwoon chuckles. He knows now.

---

He sees Kyuhyun’s back as he enters the yard. The maknae is pacing around nervously, a little restless. There’s a yellow post-it note in his hands. Jongwoon looks at his watch.
4:59pm.
Perfect.

He runs over, and gives Kyuhyun a back hug. Kyuhyun tenses for a minute, but as he realizes it’s Jongwoon, he relaxes slightly.
Jongwoon murmurs into Kyuhyun’s ear:
“So you planned it out in a way that I’d only be missing U, right?” He lets go of Kyuhyun, and Kyuhyun hands him the last post-it note.

I LOVE YOU.

Kyuhyun clears his throat, unable to meet Jongwoon’s eyes.
“You’re so cute when you’re nervous.” Jongwoon ruffles Kyuhyun’s hair.
Kyuhyun looks up into Jongwoon’s eyes. He feels like he’s sinking in them.
“Well?” He asks. One word is all it takes.
Jongwoon smiles pleasantly at Kyuhyun and waits before he says the words.
One heartbeat.
Two.
“I love you, too.”

Kyuhyun releases a sigh of relief, and hugs his hyung.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t say it back.”
“You pabo. But did you really have to make me go through all that for these 3 words? And I haven’t even heard them from you yet!” Jongwoon pinches Kyuhyun’s cheeks.
“I love you hyung. So much it scares me.”
“Well, you better intend on telling me this every single day until we grow old. I don’t think I have enough time to visit a museum everyday though - you might want to say it verbally.” Jongwoon teases. But he suddenly grabs Kyuhyun's hands, and looks at him sincerely.
“I’m warning you - once I hold on, I’m not letting go of you.”
“I’m not planning on letting you go either, hyung.”

A/N: Another confession fic...I guess I've been craving fluffy stuff rather than the angsty things I was spewing out a while ago. I tried something different with this one by writing in the present tense rather than the past (not sure how well I managed it, since I write significantly better in the past...). Hope it still works though. Do you guys get the cheesy pun I made Yesung use when he finally sees Kyuhyun? Bahaha. And I based the stuff off the actual Seoul museum of art - I've never been personally, but here's the information I used. 4 down, 6 more to go! Comments appreciated!
