Explosions=Bad Coughing?

In Chemistry, Mr. Kaeppeler did some various experiments. The first few included Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, and water. He had a beaker full of water and would drop in a small piece of each of the elements. Lithium was the mildest and Potassium was the most interesting. But, since he did each of them a few times, tons of hydroxide (?) was released
