i wanted to tell you about a ceremony that we did at our family n' friends chanukkah/solstice party after lighting the mannorah tonight:
we did a burning bowl as a group ... we each took a piece of paper and wrote down what we want to let go of. when everyone was done, we took turns ringing a bell and take a deep breath in and then putting our list in the fireplace, exhaling as we let it go and watched it burn.
after we'd each taken a turn, we took another piece of paper and wrote down what we want to bring into our life, and when we were done we rolled it up into a scroll, tied a string around it and tied the other to a branches on young trees in the front yard.
a friend of mine described a burning bowl to me a couple of years ago. it's part of her new year eve ritual. i've been meaning to do it and was hoping that this would be the first year i would bring it to fruition. i knew we would be doing a solstice ritual tonight, but i didn't know what -- adding the 'planting the seeds' of what we want to bring into our lives to the experience was such a good way to balance the burning bowl . :)
