CHAPTER 8

Koyuki placed the bouquet of primrose on the grave, the same flowers that Hayato gave to her in their most precious days of their life when they are at the peak of love, painted with endless promise to each other.

But now, it was her who will give the flowers to him for his 2nd death anniversary.

Those flowers made such trance in her mind, she reminisced the first years of her marriage life with the she chose to be with and had a child that made the bond with him became stronger. It last for many years, and yes, she loved her husband more than her life as did the man to her, trusted him until it came to an end.

Trust is as a paper that if get crumpled, it will never be back to its smooth and pure form. Hayato ruined Koyuki’s trust to him and it broke her heart in uncountable pieces. He cheated with the woman who was younger than her and had a child. Kazuya has no idea about it. She kept the pain on her own, for the sake of Kazuya to have a complete family.

The couple managed to hide it to their only son and soon, Hayato decided to be loyal again and leave the woman and their child for them. Koyuki should be happy, but she didn’t. She can’t cast away the pain that has been made, it is already carved that erased the trust and love to her husband so the remaining years turned to be colder and lifeless to Koyuki.

She fell out love long time ago before Jin came to her life. She thought Jin as a way of vengeance to Hayato but then, she can’t imagine that the young man got her belief back in love once again. To believe in Trust for the second time.y

Jin didn’t fail to introduce Koyuki to be loved by someone again and made her to fall in love so deep that she could be against the world just to be with him. He coloured her days yet it created loathe and disgrace towards her from the people surrounds them but never once she regret every forbidden memories passed between them.

She loved Jin as how love she had to her only son so it became that painful to her how Kazuya witnessed that she’s with her another man. It wasn’t her attention to hurt Kazuya so she hid everything about Jin but unfortunately, her biggest nightmare happened and the most painful was because of it, Kazuya’s life placed between life and death.

Until now, she has a guilt panged to her neck. But then, it never stopped her for loving Jin with all her heart and wishing him to be with her although she felt that there’s between Kazuya and him as what she witnessed in Osaka last time. She didn’t care because she knew that even she had hurt Jin, he will be back no matter what to her side.

*********

Rin apologized to the grumpy man beside her after languidly stretching her arms sideward, accidentally touched the man’s face with her fist. After few bows and hearing the acceptance, she smiled to the morning sun reflecting on the window of the bus.

She felt quite excitement just after she received her leave yesterday and right away packed her things and reserved a ticket. She will be back to the place where she was born, Shikoku for the special day coming few days from now.

It is also where she met Junno as a childhood friend.

Rin had her most wonderful memories in Shikoku. One of those was her first meeting with Junno who’s just eight years old while she’s five. She could never forget that day, it was her first day in Shikoku and Junno was her very first friend in the place. Junno is protective and kind to her. He never let Rin to be bullied by other children because she was just new in the place and always accompanying her when her grandfather asked Rin to go to the nearest convenient store that triggered a confusion to her heart everytime she saw the boy.

She’s so lovely in the eyes of many boys in their highschool and it is good that Junno is always there to kick some butts of her annoying suitors to let her be alone. Rin didn’t like them to be suitor of hers anyway, she likes Junno more than anyone else.

And Rin never thought that Junno felt the same as hers and soon they expressed their feelings to each other that made them free and happy. Rin never think about her dream coming true. How wonderful days that she had in her teenage days, it felt contentment, felt as if she owned the world and like there’s nothing she could wish for.

But just being with him wasn’t enough. She regretted she thought about hoping nothing although she wanted Junno to be with her for life. So they get married and spent the rest of their life in states.

“Tadaima,” she grinned like a little girl when she found herself in her grandfather’s arms.

“I miss you, Rin-Rin.”

She missed him very much too if her eyes were not pooling in tears and not choking her words, she may said it aloud. She’s always searching for this warmth, but then she realized that she may only find this in Shikoku, where her grandfather is.

It stays the same. It was like she’s was time-travelled back. All of her trophies were all as new and all well maintained as well as the pictures of them and with Junno.

She had all of her wonderful memories with Junno and her daughter in this house. Photographs keep their memories alive and fresh--- Rin wished that time will stocked in those remarkable memories, where she could see how Haruka smiles and stayed so young and alive until now.

“Where are we?”

“New home, Kazuya,” Junno patted the head of the smaller one whose eyes were glued to the house where Junno used to live when he’s young.

“New…home?” Kazuya managed to utter and gazed to the doctor and Junno showed him a smile, pulled him into an embrace “Yes, we will live here happily.”

Kazuya sunk in Junno’s embrace. Junno never felt so happy like this having Kazuya live in a normal house since it’s been two years that he never went outside of he thought his only home waiting for his father to come back. Kazuya is now free and away from those who ruined him. That was all important for Junno right now.

Ueda was on the corner, smiling to the image of Kazuya from a distance. He could now breath so free, all the secrets he kept already unveiled but he was hurt on the other side. Still, Koyuki was a part of his life. She was there when his mother and he was suffering all those times, she never hesitated to lend a hand to them but then he thought about her son remained tormented for years instead. He suffered in the unclear reasons he had in his mind, he has no idea in the reality between his parents, that they’re ripping apart because of Koyuki’s lies.

“Yo! Tat-chan!” Tatsuya almost didn’t notice his cousin waving his both hands, smiling so wide, “Don’t worry! I’m carrying your bag!!! Oh, your other bags are on Jun-chan!!” Kazuya thought that the older was worried about his bags so he halted for a while.

Tatsuya chuckled “Okay, okay. Thanks,” he also waved his hand and grinned. Kazuya just aged by number, he expected that he will be like a nanny to a five year old kid from now on.

********

Rin barely whispered after she perfectly put the royal icing on the rounded cake she baked for this special day. It is her daughter’s birthday today. She must be 10 years old if she still here with her. She must be good in clipping her hair by now and not nagging as Rin always teaching her to do it. She must be a grown up by now, playing by other girls, even having young crushes, writing stories like she always says as her dream.

“Ne, you like it... Haruka?” Rin smiled and tilted the cake infront of the picture of her daughter, Haruka in the table “Happy birthday,” her tears overcome her smile. Her death left a huge wound that can’t easily be healed. Rin lost her, she lost Haruka and because of that she also lost Junno and even how she tried to smile at this moment, it will always vanish in pain.

“Mama wishes you happy birthday...” Rin’s grandfather joined her forcing a smile “She is so happy that you baked a cake for her Rin-Rin.” He said then wiped the tears of her granddaughter with his thumb “So don’t cry... your cake for her wouldn’t be taste good. Haruka may nag at it,” he sarcastically thought, comforting Rin.

“Un,” Rin nodded, sobbing “Ne, Haruka... don’t nag if my cake for doesn’t taste great ne?” she talked as if Haruka is just standing in front of her as she wiped trails of tears on her own “You already knew that I don’t bake right? but this is your favourite cake and I know you missed how you messed our kitchen while baking,” she reminisced how Haruka had the interest in baking that Rin doesn’t have. She loves baking but she always complained at her own mess to her parents.

Her grandfather hummed and pulled her into an embrace “She won’t ever nag about the taste of that Rin because I could feel how much she loves you and she will appreciate anything you can give to her,”

Junno opened his eyes languidly to the hurtful sunlight against the window of the bus. His dream seems so true as if he went back. It’s been a weeks after he lastly decided to shut the machines down and to let the little angel rest in where she must belong. But then it couldn’t be true like the reality he was living right now. There’s no Haruka in this world now and he must accept it.

Having a box of rounded cake in his hands, he strolled going to Haruka’s grave. He always celebrates her birthday here annually with Haruka in her room. There, He sings and wished as if she’s been listening. But Today, he’ll celebrate it alone. He knew that Haruka is in peace, with no pain and sufferings as she felt while battling in her disease.

After settling himself on the grass, He exposed the cake he baked on his own. Since Haruka loves baking, he was influenced by his daughter and soon learned it with her. That was one of the treasures he cared most, because it is from her and one of the things reminded him of Haruka.

“She must be a pretty young lady by now.” Junno tad a smile after hearing a feminine voice from his behind. She used her old perfume again. The scent of Jasmine covering her petite body once again. Junno missed the scent, it is the perfume he used to adore before things went ruined and shattered.

“You smell like Jasmin,” Junno commented, almost disregard the woman’s statement while ago “After changing your perfume, I never thought you’ll use the same perfume I gave to you in our last marriage anniversary,”

His words agonized her in every inch. She felt miserable and so helpless. And yes, she wanted the warmth from him back again. She wanted to cage him in her arms and never let go. For how many times she denied this truth lying to her, it is how many times that she killed herself in million heartbreaks she received.

“Can I do something to get everything back?” the broken marriage, the restrained love that was all she wanted to ask for him. She was tired in denying things that she can’t forget. She wanted now to get things back, to get Junno back and be happy again.

“You must know the answer,” he didn’t dare to stand up and face the woman. He’s scared what the woman will see through his eyes. Scared that she will see that no one will get everything back to him. Even her.

“Y-You still love me right?” Her tears started to mix in her every small laughs she emitted. She laughed to herself for being a desperate one and for letting go of her pride just to take him back. She’s messed up but good thing that Junno can’t see her.

He went on to his feet and finally let his eyes to be seen by his ex-wife. Junno saw how she really wanted this but he can’t do anything because he already decided “It’ll be hard to get us back.” it was the very last time that her beloved called her by given name. And it’ll last time that Junno will step back to his past before moving on. “It couldn’t be. Goodbye, Rin....”

“Mommy~” A girl called.

“Yes?”

“Mommy’s cake… “ the girl pulled her head lower, facing floor “Bitter…~”

“E-Eh?” she widened her eyes, ran towards the kitchen “Is it?” She opened the fridge and hauled the cake she made few hours ago.

She got a knife with her then cut a piece for herself. “Haruka… is it really…” the girl pouted then nodded. She got a fork and swallowed a part.

Then, the girl’s pouted lips turned into wide smile “hehe, told you mommy.” She said, eyeing her mother almost choking, regretting for not tasting it after and for cuddling with him than watching the cake on the oven.

“Junno!”

“Yes, love?” Junno stick his head at the kitchen, laughing to his wife’s pouted lips. “Come here.”

“Yes? What is--- o-oww.” She pulled Junno’s ear upward. He’s so tall that she needs to tip toe just to pull his ear.

“You baka… I-I asked you ne? You said it taste good… but Haruka said it’s bitter…” she whispered with her shaken and flushing to Junno’s ears. She felt somehow ashamed of her creation. She’s a newbie in field of baking and the one who tasted her cake was atleast two rank higher than her, Haruka.

Junno giggled, looking in his daughter’s direction “But…” Haruka smiled “Mommy’s cake will always be loved… right dad?”

“Yes, it will.” Junno smiled, pulling Rin in an embrace.
