Chapter 12

“Who are you?”

Tatsuya couldn’t react nothing but surprised, cupping the young man’s face “It’s me! Tatsuya your cousin!” he smiled widely, but it didn’t last long as Kazuya suddenly jolted out, pushing him away.

“I DON’T KNOW YOU! WHERE AM I? WHERE’S JIN! JIN!” Kazuya went bizarre, crying out Jin’s name as he’s trying to free himself from the several needles struck in his arms. In dazed, Tatsuya merely watched Kazuya getting violent in front of him, shedding his tears and shaking in fear as he almost ruined the door knob just to be open. Tatsuya couldn’t absorb of what’s happening right now, everything’s so unclear and painful to see.

“Jin! Jin! please let me see him...”

***

And blue sky was gobbled up by the dark

The thunder begins to roar…

And the rain begins to sprinkle around…

Jin was taken aback when he felt the rain drops abruptly stopped from falling. He opened his tired eyes and saw a dome-shape something colored by light blue. He gently rubbed his both eyes and he clearly saw that thing above him---An umbrella, then turned his gaze to the one who’s handling the umbrella.

And so familiar. This scene.

Kazuya smiled at him while handling the umbrella over him. . He has brown hair almost reaching his shoulders with a cheerful face worth to be looked at forever. He’s so beautiful looking into Jin like he’d never seen him in any chapters of his life, like being non-existent. Don’t you ever remember me? I’m Jin!

Jin came in realization that he couldn’t be heard by him. As if he’s in such dimension where he couldn’t control his own body. He knew to himself that he’s speaking what does his mind thinks but his mouth isn’t moving at all the way he wanted to speak. He could see the other man, but he can’t feel anything like he’s just watching Kame from someone’s eyes. Kazuya’s face somehow calmed him from freaking out and just decides to let everything be in their place as he watched this particular scene.

“It’s raining, you’ll be sick,” the guy broke the silence, then widened his grin to Jin.

“I’m okay…” snorted.

His eyes were widened as Kazuya willingly closed his umbrella and occupied the space next to Jin, pushing his feet against the ground to rock the hammock together with him.

“Accompanying you to enjoy the rain?”

“You don’t need to and besides I don’t know you” he snatch the umbrella and opened it for him. “Now go, go wherever you wanted to… I just want to be alone,” He pushed Kazuya to stood up. “Accompanying stranger? You’re weird.” Jin talked to himself in disbelief.

“I’m Kazuya Kamenashi… so now you know me and there’s no reason to leave you here alone,” he offered his hand but Jin just only stared at him.

“The rain has no ears to listen, but I have those,” Kazuya uttered while tilting his head with his closed eyes, feeling every drops to his pretty face.

“What do you mean?” he asked, arching his brows.

“The rain can only hide the tears but a friend can wipe it away,”

“They said---“

“Just… please leave me alone… why you keep talking to me though you don’t know even my name?” he was cut off by Jin who was on his nerves under the downpour. He just wanted to be alone.

“I keep talking to you because I wanna see you smile, Jin.”

Jin...

Jin...

JIN!

Jin forced his lids to cracked up, welcoming the new morning that has just arrived. He found himself lying on the chairs in waiting shed of Jutendo. He stood up, swearing his sore neck and back as he’s trying to analyze anything happened since yesterday.

He could still feel the body he carried in his hands yesterday. Though it wasn't the first time that Kazuya lost his consciousness in front of him, he couldn't help his hands shiver in the memory five days ago. They’re both portraying the characters like they rehearsed before. It run smoothly until the final act but Jin never had such in mind that something will happen as the red velvet curtain was slowly going down in them, while they are in midst of bowing, thanking everyone as Kazuya suddenly fell from his knees but at least, he’s just beside to catch him away from the hardcore floor.

Naturally, everybody freaked out back stage, but it’s Junnosuke who had it the worse. He’s so calm in the eyes of the other who saw it however Jin could witness the stress reflecting his eyes-saying like it’s serious. And he didn’t went wrong, Junnosuke told to him and Tatsuya that Jutendo could only cater Kazuya’s medical needs which means it practically a serious one. Junnosuke only understand Kazuya’s condition and whatever it was, it seems he couldn’t tell to them this time. Jin was all worried about him so they didn’t waste any time and catch the first ship schedule going to Tokyo.

It won't have turn to its worse if it wasn't because of him. Kazuya did this all because of him, making to feel the heavy burden of whatever was happening right now. He's such a jerk. What if Kazuya got exhausted from their over-night practice and something might happen worst because of that? Damnit! - why he didn’t think that the first place? All he ever wanted was for himself.

Kazuya was still in cold even though five days have passed and Junnosuke didn’t tell them anything about his condition--- this is the worse feeling ever.

“JIN!” he stirred from his thoughts as he heard Tatsuya screaming from afar, approaching him. “Kazuya...”

As soon as he read what does Tatsuya’s face meant, Jin set off his feet, Tatsuya looked stress as always, but he never saw him cried like something happened to his cousin.Rushing to Kazuya’s room, he controlled his breathing just enough not  to sum to Tatsuya's

This was his fault... Kazuya.. what if he...

“JIN!” the man who owned the name froze, letting the body happily land into his broad chest “Jin! where have you been... I missed you.”

Jin merely got speechless for a moment hearing his name from Kazuya. His heart suddenly filled with relief seeing him fine like this, smiling and saying his name like the most wonderful song he ever heard.  “I---“

“There’s so many strangers here... please take me out of here Jin, please.” Kame buried his head into Jin’s neck, as if hiding into someone could hurt him. It confuses Jin, so he turned his head to seek for answers behind where Tatsuya was standing there alone, in tears.

****

“I don’t know,” Tatsuya hid his face in his palms,  “I don’t know how did he forget me...I-“

“Shh, Tat-chan..” Jin soothe Tatsuya’s back, “What happened when he woke up?”

The shorter guy sniffs “He asked for you.. then he asked me who I am. and freaked out.” Then he really broke into tears, shedding into his palms like they could stop his tears as Jin offered his hand again into his back to comfort his friend.

“Just like he always did before.” he baffled, remembering how Kame treats him before. He was kind of mean to the strangers he never met or remember but it seems different in Tatsuya's case. It made him cry and he wasn't certain how mean the younger became “It should be me that must be forgotten..."his voice faded, trying to seek answers as much as he could, but he failed. Biting his lower lip he inquired “Does Taguchi-san knew about this?”

“I assume he’s the only one could explain this to us.” Tatsuya said, handling the tall glass of water in front of him “I’ve never met him after he went into his old office, talking with the other physicians.”

. “I see.” He pushed a small smile in his lips. it bothers him too-- the last time he saw him was the day they brought Kame in Tokyo “Don’t worry Kazuya will be fine soon.”

Jin felt so something heavy weighing his heart, he don’t know what was happening to Kazuya right now. But he felt like he didn’t want him to be back at his old self if it’s the only thing could make Kazuya remember Jin-it’s his selfish side but the other side sympathize for his cousin and Taguchi-san. What if Kazuya will never remember them again? Will he be left forgotten again if he do?

*****

“Aniki.” Reio called out. “What are you thinking?”

“Nothing. Just spacing out.” He raised his hand to ruffle his little brother’s hair. “Anyway, you’ve been growing your hair alot!” he fake a grin as he continued packing lunch that he requested to his mom for Kazuya.

Reio tsked, fixing his hair “I want my hair to be like yours.” He pointed out, trying to annoy his brother.

“Be unique, don’t copy mine you baka.” Jin hates seeing someone having the same hair as his. Even his brother “Fine, I’ll buy you magazine and search out various style apart from mine.”

“Fine, fine,” Reio sighed, resting head into the table with his arms “How’s Kame-chan?” he noticed his brother’s huge bags under his restless eyes. It’s been days since Jin barely sleeps at home and stays at Jutendo ever since he came back in Tokyo because of Kazuya.

“He woke up,” Jin answered briefly, pressing the very last lock in the bento “All done.” He chirped inserting the bento in a bag, ready to go.

“Did he remember you?”

Jin halted his motions as soon as Reio’s words reached him-he’s still baffled whether he would be happy to think that the younger could remember him as he wakes up or not since it’s Tatsuya and Taguchi-san who suffered the most in this situation. But then, aiming not to show Reio anything that could worry him he smiled instead, “He’s fine.”

“Can I visit him?” If he has a tail, Reio could have waggle it in excitement. “Can I?”

“Hmm, maybe the following week. Let’s give him time to rest for more.” He assured, giving an excuse of what was happening to Kazuya right now.

"I'm off." Jin nonchalantly waved his hand as his mom and Reio bid goodbyes as he start his auto.

A Sigh came out of him as he watched his family in the mirror , going back inside. He yearned the day for him to finally introduce him to them. He want Kame to meet them as soon as he got off to Jutendo... and live with him.

The thought of living with him made him smile, like it tickles his heart everytime he imagines it. He and Kazuya living in a house nearby the shore while he watches him surfing along-- such a dream worth to wait.

****

"I'm enteringggg~~" After a knock, Jin chirped with his lowered voice before entering but he merely halted as he heard breaking sounds inside the room.

"NO I WANT JIN!! BRING JIN BACK TO ME!"

"No! Kazu don't you are hurting yourself!" he widened his eyes in fear of Kame doing something to harm himself so he fastened up, twisting the knob to push the door almost violently.

"JIN!!!" the man in hospital clothes care no more even if his shirt was over sized that it trips to his shoulders as he yelled like a kid who had been lost and found his father behind him.

The man remained stilled in his spot as he  was welcomed with such intimidating eyes belongs to no other than Taguchi-san. He was surprisingly dresses like physician knowing that he already retire when he took Kame off to Shikoku.

"Konnichiwa." the physician bowed politely. despite of all the chaos Kame made to his own room, there's no evident of freaking out just like Tatsuya did. His eyes was so dull like he hadn't enough sleep since forever.

Jin nodded "Kon---"

"JIN!!!" he was caught as he felt the small frame of the patient land on his chest, already wrapped his arms aroung his torso, Kame inhaled the musky scent that made him feel secure.

"Where have you been?" Kame's eyes automatically filled with tears, tugging his sleeves "I don't want here. That man wants to hurt me..I'm scared." he finished his sentence resting his head on Jin's chest.

He glanced to the emptied orbs of the physician, meeting his at the very  same time before he gave Kame the hug back, soothing the patient's quivering body. "Excuse me," Jin didn't know what to say, he just let the physician to make his way out.

"Kazu..." Jin combed Kame's fringes as he kissed the top of his head " Don't be scared... he's your friend, Taguchi-san. Right?"

"But he's going to hurt me!" He retorted, filling his eyes with tears again.

"Shhh." It hurts to see him like this, but it is more painful to Tatsuya and Taguchi-san. Kame was so scared everytime they come in his room. Jin was so confuse of what had triggered him to be like this. Jin closed his eyes, holding Kame closer "They are not going to hurt you. They are your friends... you've been here before... this is where we met Kame. Please don't forget them." he tried to elaborate things to the younger one but Kame refuse to absorb it all. "all I need is you Jin..." he whispered "I'm sleepy.I haven't sleep last night because you're not here. I can't sleep... but now..." Kame yawned, feeling safe in Jin's arms.

"So please cuddle me to sleep?" he hummed.

Jin smirked "You want me to cuddle you?" he flushed. Kame's invitation was too cute to refuse so he grabbed him right away, bridal style as Kame giggled in surprise. He never thought Jin was that strong-- and he loved being lifted by him, everything is comfortable when it's him.

Effortlessly, he rested Kame in the stiff hospital bed gently, leaving the other man breathless from gigling, he seems so happy. Jin never saw Kame this happy, giggling and such. His heart was melt like an ice, and it's worth melting for because it's him.

Jin smiled warmly, lifting his fingers to caress such beautiful face belongs to his beloved "I'm glad you remember me." His heart was pounding like crazy, having him this close. His eyes were sparkling like Jin was the only thing he could see and his hands that locked to Jin, afraid that anytime he would be apart from him.

"There's no reason to forget you." He said, all eyes to Jin. "You are the past of my forgotten memory that keeps getting back- the permanent piece in my deteriorating memory. You are all that I've got." He held Jin with all his might, with all his heart "I don't care about my past if its not you, Jin."

"Please don't forget them." because it hurts. He knew how it hurt, how every moment that Kazuya forgot him. And he was certain that it was a ten fold pain for his cousin and to the doctor, knowing that they had been fond of him all those years he's been suffering.

But it didn't felt that way as he looked in Taguchi-san's eyes. It looks like he's expecting this before. Is there's something that Jin needs to know  about it?

The taller man pulled out of his thoughts as he felt Kame's hot breaths in his chest, peacefully sleeping. It would be a  perfect time to talk to him. Jin carefully detached himself away to the clingy younger one and kissing his forehead to say goodbye for a while.

As soon as he suceeds his eyes accidentally lead into the table beside Kazuya's bed. There's a small paper toppled with an apple and it says:

"At the grounds. See u as  soon as u got him calmed down."

At one last look, he glance at Kazuya for moment, silently praying to his heart that everything will be alright.

****

"Have a sit." Such an intimidating scene for Jin. Hee and Taguchi-san alone in the playground, it's just the dried leaves was whistles of the wind could onky help him out to breathe as calm as he could.

Jin nodded, occupying the other side of the bench, maintaining the distance between him. Somehow he could still feel he still didn't want him for hIs friend after all that he heard about. He could still sense the loathe making his eyes alive.

If there's something Taguchi wanted to talk to him was surely Kazuya and it makes him kind of nervous to think that it would all about his condition.

"Did he sleep well?" The physician broke the ice and  somehow it made Jin a bit relaxed hearing his calm voice over the gushes of falling mapple leaves.

Jin just nodded "He said he haven't slept last night so..."

"Why don't take him out? Live together." Taken aback, Jin turned his head to the physician whose nonchalantly smiling to the dancing leaves in front of them "I don't believe you love him until Kazuya told it himself. Well, I guess It's just me who kept bringing back the past...everybody moved on and Kazuya somehow choose to move on himself." Jin's heart suddenly turned into melting ice, seeing him smile for a while made him felt that he had his blessings.

But on the other side, he thought both of them. Is it really okay for the both of them to be forgotten?

"Make his last days a happy one Jin, he deserves it."

Those words suddenly hit him hard. So hard that he barely heard him "What do you mean?"

"Kamenashis had been known for their excellence in the music industry little did few people know that they had also been known as science favorite subjects in the field of Genetics." The doctor's eyes were seems somewhere else Jin didn't exist "They had a strange set of genes that develop a kind of incurable syndrome only the line of Kamenashi had-Aurora Syndrome.”

It rang the bell-Tatsuya had mentioned this once long time ago, when he accidentally brought up the death of his colleagues mother. He saw the emotion suddenly hit Jin quite hard, nonetheless he continued “Named after the famous character of Grimms. The root cause was still unknown until the present time, but as the name suggest it’s so much like Sleeping beauty that the patient had fallen to sleep in a long period for some reasons. The mere fact we knew about the syndrome was beginning from the brain where it forgets the vital functions of the body. It starts from forgetting... in the memory, motor functions, and vital functions… like heart beatings.”

Jin's world was like falling apart-- He didn't expect it coming though he barely knew the younger one. He never saw even slightness signs of syndrome in him. Not even the slightest sight of being in line of death. He felt like being stabbed a dozens times of a dagger-- no not even just enough. Fear and anxiety had overcome Jin that he just froze on his spot.

"Will he survive?" he felt his heart stuck on his throat. It really taken him aback. Not this time that he wanted him for life. Not in this time that he love him so much that losing him will be painful as much as his own death.

“I’ve been studying along with his mother- and we came into the theory that syndrome doesn’t have official ceiling of age to be surfaced. As we looked on the long list of Kamenashis had suffered in the syndrome.. the youngest was 7 years old. And in terms of survival…I don’t have any assurance since not a single Kamenashi had been reported who got awake after being in deep sleep.”

"Tatsuya and I had been aware of it long time ago.” Taguchi replied, dryly. "Kazuya's condition was such a complex one-- it's so like a puzzle fillled with bombs. Any wrong move could make it worst. So even the greatest medical pratitioners couldn't even think of a way to make him escape this. Even his own mother." Mentioning Kazuya's mother made Taguchi halted, calming himself "Not even me." It's hard to admit it. He did all his best to cure him-- but at the end of the road, he failed. He couldnt stop it getting worse.

“What about this changes in Kazuya’s memory? Was this the effect of his syndrome?” Jin couldn’t understand this him well-he only thought of Kazuya’s life in line. He had learned the chance that Kazuya, will soon be in deep sleep after and God knows what will happens next.

“I'm a Physician by profession yet I don't believe much in science when it comes to his condition in terms of his selective memory syndrome.” The doctor responded. “ I had a theory that it was all him who made this cage around himself. It was his choice to forget and not his option that his brain was damaged due his inherited syndrome. He dropped all the memories important to him just to remember you. And I have the hope that it's up all to him whether he wanted to wake up again for you."

"So I forgive you as well." Jin lifted his head as he heard the word in thee physician "Go away and live with him. Make him realize how wonderful life could with you so the time will come that he’ll be in deep sleep and forget all..He won’t forget you." He bowed in front of Jin, like a father giving blessings to take care of his child.

Jin felt so overwhelmed with happiness. Having the blessing of the Physician made his tears unstoppable. He will have a good life with Kazuya and he promised it. He will make hin realized how wonderful life could be... he'll make him realize to make a choice to continue his life instead. "Yes, I will." Jin equaled the bow.

"Ah, thank you." Junnosuke shifted to relaxed his back "Well, I guess we won't be able to see our baby Kazu for a long time."

Jin just chuckled "I promise make him remember you, Taguchi-san."

Junno emitted a small chuckle as well, looking at his hands on his lap "Maybe Junno will do."

Other man's face lightened up "I-- okay. Junno."

"Ah~ what a day." he stretch his hands up "I guess I should get back of being a resident physician here. And probably taking Tat-chan on a vacation while Kazu is away." Junno's face lit up as well, mentioning Tat-chan.

He looked up, everything felt so fine though having Kazuya's condition on the way, since he had the faith that Kazuya will go through it. He'll be cured--- someday.

"I'll be marrying Tat-chan soon."

"Pardon?" Jin looked surprised "Did Tat-chan and you..."

"Yes." Junno smile was bright, more what he saw when he first met the doctor.

"That's good." He smiled. Now that Junno was happy, he silently prayed for Rin's happiness to come as well. He knew well that Rin was still in love with him but time will come he will find someone really fits for him-- he knew she will.

"JIINNNNNNN!!!!~"

"Kazu!! wait!"

The men turned their attentions to their lovers running along. Kazuya was like running as of his life depend on it as he saw Jin while Tatsuya, tagging along tripped his foot, making him land on the grass.

"Tat-chan!" Both men shout in suprised as they saw him tripped off.

"Eh?" Kazuya stopped, saw him yelping in pain as the men approach them, to check Tatsuya.

"You okay?" Junno held his lover close, brushing the grass off his messed up hair.

"Tat-chan..." Jin called. He didn't know where he should touch him since he looked so pained in Junno's arms. Kazuya ran behind Jin's back, hiding as he  whispered "Is he okay? He's chasing me! I didn't mean it..." Jin pulled him to face his guilty puppy eyes glaring at him, he knew that he's the reason why he tripped up and he feels so sorry and yet acting like a brat defending himself.

"I'm sorry." He hugged Jin close, letting himself being fulfillled with Jin's scent in his nose.

"You should say sorry to Tat-chan not to me." He felt like a father to a little kid and it felt like nothing wrong since it's Kazuya so it's okay.

"I'm okay... I'm okay...." he said, as Junno helped him to stand up.

"I'm sorry Tat-chan." Kazuya pouted, hiding his face in Jin's neck.

"What?" Both Tatsuya ang Junno misheard.

"I'msorry." Kame mumbled.

"Make it clearer Kazu." Jin sighed "You won't be sorry unless you properly said it--"

"I'M SO SORRY TAT-CHAN!"

Tatsuya and Junno both surprised. Kame so mean in strangers and will never say sorry out loud but Jin made him apologize for what he had done. Tatsuya smiled, it wasn't that serious he fell over but "It's okay." He said, accepting the apology. He couldn't do that to him-- he looked at his lover's eyes filled with contented, silently saying that now they could fully trust him to Jin, they could at least spend time for themselves.
