hmmm, probably the history of something or some time period--maybe the lives of working-class peasants during medieval europe? or something related to language and colonialism/postcolonialism.

I would say, almost anything that the speaker knew about and had great passion for, and could present in an interesting way - because almost everything is interesting once you get into it.
Example: last night, by chance, I caught some of a programme about how marbles are made. Fascinating: and yet I had no idea I wanted to know!
