Notes: So really, I didn't mean to do this, I didn't want to! But... oddly enough Jeremy offered me this challenge today over lunch, and well, I just couldn't help it! (And yes, these really were the fortunes we got, the challenge being to encorporate them into a fic, involving Kime... How he knew how perfect this was for TxN is truly beyond me, but... Anyway!) ^___^

“Mou…Tuti…”

Tuti sighed. He wasn’t sure if it was because they had both woken up so early due to his partner’s particularly insatiable appetite for attention lately, or if it was the fact that their local Starbucks had been inexplicably closed this morning during his attempted coffee run, but… Either way, Takashi was whining this afternoon. A lot.

“What is it now?” Tuti gave Takashi his best attentive-and-concerned look from across the small table. It had been a while since they’d had Chinese food, and this was one of Takashi’s favorite places, but… Ever since they’d arrived, his boyfriend hadn’t stopped complaining. He was trying to appease him as best he could, but it just didn’t seem to be working. He stared over at Takashi, waiting.

“I don’t understand this fortune,” Takashi pouted.

And sure enough, Takashi was squinting at the tiny piece of paper looking completely perplexed.

“Um…” Tuti really didn’t have anything to say to that. Something was definitely wrong with Takashi today though, he was thinking, if he was complaining about fortunes. Two days off in a row, way too much time alone, both of these things were likely contributing to his partner’s mood, he guessed, but… Tuti decided he was probably better off concentrating on his food right now, anyway. Maybe if he just ignored Takashi, he would-

“Seriously, Tuti! Look at this! What am I supposed to think about this?” And Takashi was shoving the piece of paper under Tuti’s nose.

Tuti picked up the fortune tentatively, ignoring the stares from several nearby patrons that Takashi’s outburst had attracted to their table.

His boyfriend was eyeing him suspiciously though, and before Tuti even realized what was happening, a hand was reaching over his food, and snatching up the uneaten fortune cookie from his side of the table.

“It’s weird, right?” Takashi was saying, nodding towards Tuti, as he unwrapped the plastic packaging. “But I want to see what yours is.”

“Hey, I wasn’t-” He started, but Tuti sighed again, because Takashi had already broken the cookie open, and was extracting the fortune in question.

It was then that he finally looked down at the tiny and slightly crumpled piece of paper that Takashi had deposited in front of him. Hmm. He had thought for sure that Takashi had just been acting strange, but… It seemed that his boyfriend was right. This fortune really was weird.

Bend the rod while it is still hot.

What did that mean, anyway? Not the most illuminating fortune, but... It did peak his curiousity. Tuti couldn’t help but chuckle a little though. He guessed that any sort of…inappropriate implications must not have occurred to Takashi, or he would have mentioned it to him already, but…

“OUCH!” Tuti rubbed his shin under the table. “What was that for?” He couldn’t help but smile a little at the look on Takashi’s face though.

“Your fortune!” And Takashi’s face had twisted into a full-fledged pout now, and he was staring at Tuti, his eyes wide. “Mou… Tuti… This isn’t fair.”

And with that, Tuti just couldn’t silence the laugh that he’d been suppressing for the past few minutes any longer. He stopped himself quickly though, because the man across from him was still looking at him unhappily, and he wondered for a second if Takashi was honestly upset. “So let me see,” he said, offering a hopeful smile.

Takashi handed the piece of paper over to Tuti, still looking utterly dejected. “It’s not funny.”

Tuti looked down, squinting a little at the small print.

An acquaintance of the past will affect you in the near future.

“I don’t understand,” Tuti told him honestly, and waited for an explanation.

Takashi was looking over at Tuti, still pouting. “I don’t want anyone to…”

Tuti swallowed hard and tried not to smile. “You don’t want anyone to what?”

“Affect you.”

Tuti really couldn’t help it now - he was laughing, and he knew that he was probably making Takashi angry but, it was just too funny. Not to mention the fact that this was just about the silliest thing he had ever heard come out of his boyfriend’s mouth. Something was definitely weird about Takashi today. “I thought you told me before that you weren’t the jealous type. Not that I believed that for a second, but…”

Takashi offered a small smile at this, to Tuti’s surprise. “I lied.” He said quietly. “I’m jealous.”

“Of a fortune?” Tuti raised an eyebrow, not being able to stop smiling.

“Yeah. You have a problem with that?”

Tuti shrugged. Actually he thought it was kind of cute. “No.”

Tuti was still busy pondering how Takashi was able to look so cute while saying the most ridiculous things, and was wondering too why on earth they were still discussing fortune cookies of all things, and in the process, he failed to notice that their table was being approached rather stealthily, by a mysteriously familiar looking individual.

“And saa… What do we have here?”

Takashi practically jumped, and two heads swiveled in unison over to the small figure who had somehow already managed to pull a chair up to their table.

“Ah! Kime!” Takashi still looked surprised, but after a second he lowered his eyes suspiciously at his friend. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Kimeru was smiling, looking a little devious, though Tuti couldn’t imagine why, since neither of them had even said anything yet. He shrugged this thought off quickly though. Maybe this was a good thing. At least now Takashi would calm down a little about these stupid fortunes.

His boyfriend was apparently already taking part in some sort of heated debate with Kimeru anyway. Their heads were bowed, their voices hushed - in general, nothing Tuti hadn’t seen before - but after a minute or two, Tuti began to get worried.

Because Tuti knew that look. Takashi was blushing and Kimeru was shaking his head at his friend and laughing, and they both wouldn’t stop glancing at Tuti and then snickering. The last time this had happened he… Well… It was safe to say that he was glad things got back to normal quickly. But still…

Tuti sighed, and braced himself for the worst.

Takashi was smiling at him, and Tuti felt the heat rising in his face a little because he could tell what Takashi was thinking, with this look. Or at least he could tell what Takashi was thinking about, and he suddenly wished they were not in quite so public of a place, and he definitely wished that Kimeru wasn’t here.

Takashi winked at him after a second though, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, Tuti suddenly felt his throat go dry as a familiar toe began to creep slowly up his pant leg under the table. He had no idea how Takashi had removed his shoe without him noticing, but…

“Takashi…” He hissed, trying to avoid Kimeru’s eyes. “What are you doing?”

“Saa, Tuti, he’s just excited.” And it was Kimeru’s turn to wink at Tuti now, which was really…unnerving, Tuti decided.

Takashi was laughing though, and to Tuti’s relief, had moved his feet back to his side of the table.

Tuti tried his best to compose himself before he spoke, clearing his throat a little awkwardly. “So are you going to explain what you guys were whispering about, or do I have to guess?”

Takashi and Kimeru exchanged a decidedly mischievous glance before Kimeru abruptly stood up from the table. “Well, I’d love to hear your guesses, but conveniently, I think I’ve cleared everything up, so… I’ll leave you two alone.”

And just like that…he was gone. Tuti blinked, confused.

“How does he do that?” He wondered out loud. “And what are you smiling about?”

“The fortune.” Takashi grinned, looking pleased. “It was Kime, so now I don’t have to worry.”

Tuti squinted across the table at his boyfriend and wondered, not for the first time, if this man was truly crazy. “You really think that?”

Takashi shrugged, and then gave him a look that caused Tuti’s breath to catch. His head was suddenly swimming, and he had to blink several times to remind himself where he was. Because it never failed. No matter where they were, or who they were with, all it took was that look. And Tuti was sure Takashi knew the effect it had on him. It was a talent, for sure. And a practiced one at that, Tuti was thinking with a smile.

Takashi lowered his eyes at Tuti, breaking the spell for a second, “So Kime had a few ideas about what my fortune meant.”

Tuti blinked. This had really not been what he was expecting to hear from Takashi’s mouth, especially when he had just been looking at him like that. “What?” He asked automatically, and then it dawned on him. He grinned.

“Yeah, you know bend-”

Tuti snickered. “Yeah, yeah I get it.”

“You do?” Takashi didn’t look convinced.

“Well, I think so?” Tuti raised an eyebrow. “But you could always explain the finer points to me in the cab on the way home?”

Tuti grinned as they got up from the table, not at all surprised that neither of them wanted to waste another second.

Tuti knew he was blushing again though, as they got out of the cab, having to untangle a limb here and there before they were finally able to extract themselves. They half-walked, half-ran up the stairs to Takashi’s apartment, stumbling like drunkards, but… He didn’t really care. His thoughts were blissfully devoid of any embarrassment due to their behavior anymore, and all he was really thinking about was how he couldn’t wait to be alone with Takashi. There was one other thing though, that crept into his thoughts quickly though…

Lunch… He was thinking as the door closed behind him, just before he found himself pinned back against it again roughly, a pair of warm lips waiting to press against his hungrily…

I really have to take him out for lunch more often.
