Title: Fall
Author: analine
Pairing: TutixNagayan
Warnings: None, work-safe
Rating: PG
Notes: I really wanted to post this earlier today, but was thwarted many times by work, etc. Basically the result of me being continuously intrigued by Nagayan, and by the strange sorts of ideas he seems to have about many things, my need for fluff, and the fact that it was really cold here when I woke up this morning. *nod* Tuti POV. ^_^
Dedicated to
lizstarsky who went to great efforts to cheer me up today at work. (Successfully, I might add!) ^____^

tenimyu_slash A soft rustle of covers, and the gentle squeak of the bed lingered at the edge of his consciousness, but it wasn’t until he heard Takashi’s unmistakable sigh that he forced himself to open his eyes and sit up, squinting in the early morning semi-darkness. He watched as Takashi’s dim shadow opened one dresser drawer, and then another, pulling on loose fitting pajama pants and covering his bare shoulders and arms with a soft, grey cotton t-shirt.
“It’s getting cold,” he heard Takashi mumble a little grumpily, and Tuti listened as the familiar sound of soft feet padded down the hallway to the bathroom.
The door closed with a dull click, as Tuti leaned back against the pillows, enjoying the comfortable warmth between the soft blankets and the bed. He waited for a few lazy minutes until he realized that judging by the noises coming from the kitchen, Takashi wasn’t coming back. He forced himself to brave the slightly chilled air of Takashi’s apartment after a moment, swinging his legs over the side of the bed, and frowning slightly when his bare feet met the wooden floor.
Tuti blinked in surprise a few moments later at the sight of Takashi at the stove, spatula in hand, messy brown hair framing his face as he turned and smiled.
“What did I do to deserve this?” Tuti grinned back, and walked over to Takashi, wrapping his arms around the smaller man carefully, peeking over his shoulder at the pan on the stove.
“Nothing in particular,” Takashi said, leaning into Tuti’s arms, and Tuti felt both of them relax for a moment before his boyfriend spoke again. “I’m allowed to cook if I want to, right?”
“Well, sure,” Tuti whispered, planting a few kisses along Takashi’s neck, and tightening his grip around the trim waist and firmly toned muscles of his boyfriend’s stomach. “It’s just early. And you seemed grumpy a few minutes ago.”
“I wasn’t grumpy.”
“What is it then?”
Tuti believed him, but an edge of true concern had worked its way into his voice anyway, because he could tell that something was on Takashi’s mind. He was always grateful for this too - for how transparent Takashi allowed himself to be around him, because he knew that most people never got to see this side of his partner. Right now Takashi’s tone of voice, his mannerisms, his reactions, and the smile that hadn’t quite reached his eyes - everything reflected his mood, and Tuti felt lucky, to be able to perceive this. It was nothing serious, but… Takashi just seemed down, Tuti was thinking as he loosened his grip after a moment, stepping backwards until his shoulders met the wall next to the stove. He leaned back, watching the man in front of him absently poke at the contents of the frying pan.
“It’s nothing,” Takashi said finally. “I just… I hate fall. I hate this weather.”
“Why?” Tuti asked, half out of reflex, but mostly because was genuinely curious.
He was a little amazed too, just that there were still so many things he didn’t know about this man, regardless of the level of intimacy they had shared. It was nice, he decided. To still be able to discover things like this - secrets and quirks that he knew Takashi didn’t reveal to many people. He always found Takashi’s thoughts and opinions to be interesting too, even when they related to the most mundane things. He watched his partner attentively, eyeing with interest the busy hands moving around on the stove, and the lips that were pressed together in thought.
Takashi’s hands stopped moving after a second, and he stared forward, blinking. “I don’t know. There’s just something so… ominous about it, you know?”
Tuti quirked an eyebrow at his partner, trying to wrap his mind around that idea. “Ominous? About fall?”
Takashi nodded, ignoring the strange look Tuti was giving him. “I mean, it’s pretty and everything, and at first it seems nice, right when the leaves are changing, but… The chill in the air now, it’s just kind of dark, you know? It gives me a weird feeling. Every year. I know it’s stupid, but I don’t know… I hate these grey, chilly mornings.”
And then Takashi sighed again, before turning to Tuti and forcing a somewhat tired smile. “Breakfast is ready.”
Tuti chuckled at the abrupt change of subject, and took a step back, watching Takashi as he made the necessary preparations for their meal, clinking plates and cups around as he reached into the cupboards, and fishing around in the drawer next to the stove for their favorite set of chopsticks.
Sometimes he could just get lost in this, he realized, forcing himself to blink as Takashi poured coffee into the mugs on the table. Just watching Takashi, just being allowed to experience this, to be a part of this man’s life was…fascinating, at times. Tuti knew he should be used to it by now, but…
It wasn’t until the other man laughed, and prodded him with his toe from under the table that Tuti realized he was staring fixedly at some feature or another of Takashi’s face, and that neither of them had said anything in a while.
“So are you going to eat, or what?” Takashi grinned. “Not that I mind you staring at me.”
Tuti shook his head. “I was just thinking.”
“You were staring,” Takashi informed him over a mouthful of food.
And Tuti laughed loudly, realizing that this was likely true. “You’re right. I probably was.”
“You were.”
Takashi was smiling again, and Tuti felt his heart give a little turn inside of him as he watched the other man glance at him, and then look away, a little shyly.
“You know, I love that you still look at me like that,” Takashi said quietly after a second.
And Tuti felt his face warming a little at this, though he really wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was just that most of the time, Takashi didn’t verbalize things like this, and even though Tuti never questioned the other man’s feelings, it was nice to have these tiny reassurances now and then.
“Me too,” he said, after a second.
Takashi gave him another soft smile, and for a while they ate in silence, sipping coffee, and listening to the sounds of the street waking up outside.
“So what are we going to do on this ominous fall day?” Tuti asked when their plates were both empty, winking at his partner across the table. “I’m free almost all afternoon.”
Takashi laughed a little, and then shrugged. “You know, I have no idea what I was even talking about before. It doesn’t feel that way at all now.”
“No?”
Takashi shook his head.
“Because of me?” Tuti asked, raising his eyebrows.
The other man grinned. “Maybe…”
“Come on...”
“Ok, ok, yeah, it’s because of you.” Takashi shook his head, glaring a little. “Baka.”
“Well in that case, we should do something outside today.” Tuti watched as Takashi looked up at him with interest. “The park?”
Takashi nodded, but his eyes were distracted. “Hmm…” he murmured, resting his elbows on the table, and leaning forward a little.
“What?”
“I was just thinking how nice it would be to crawl back into bed.” Takashi looked at Tuti, a slightly guilty smirk turning up the corners of his mouth. “But the park sounds nice too.”
“Later?”
Takashi nodded, his eyes darkening a little as he glanced at Tuti. “Later.”
And then Tuti couldn’t help but laugh out loud at Takashi’s sudden burst of energy as his boyfriend jumped up from the table grabbing his arm roughly, the force of movement causing their half-finished coffee to slosh back and forth dangerously on the table.
The hallway, and everything around them passed by Tuti in blur of grey before they arrived to the bedroom and Takashi let go of his arm, hopping into bed, and covering himself with the blankets in one swift movement. Tuti could hear muffled noises of contentment coming from the bed after a second too, and he paused to smile before pulling back the edge of the covers creating a rush of air that he knew would cause Takashi to gasp in surprise.
He looked down at Takashi, and in that instant he realized what it was that had been lingering in his mind since he had first woken up this morning. It was something that he thought often, he realized, though usually not so concretely.
Because right now, Tuti was thinking with conviction that he had absolutely no idea what he would do without Takashi, without moments like this, and without this person’s presence in his life. He was thinking too that this was exactly how he wanted it to be. This was how it should be, and this was why this was so good, he realized, as he bounced onto the bed a little more forcefully than was necessary, pulling the covers tightly around Takashi in a circle of warmth that shut out everything around them.
