Basics
Name: Olivia.
Nickname: Livy, Yuliee, Daisy.. There's a ton of names I go by. I AM A MAN OF MANY FACES.
Age: Turning 16 on the 19th.
Gender: I believe I'm a part of the female persuasion. Last time I checked, anyway.
Personality
Describe yourself (how you perceive yourself -- can be as short or as long as you want! ;) ): I am, these days, as a whole, incredibly inconsistent and contradictory. I think the only constants here would be.. My honesty (sometimes at the expense of others), my flightiness, my somewhat liberal opinions, and my neverending desire to be of help or assistance - the go-to guy for advice or a shoulder to lean on, so to speak.
You've heard people say you are: Quiet, mature, depressed, silly, smart, weird, 'ahead of my time', determined.
Overall, would you say your life is:
Peaceful/Full of conflict? It's actually rather calm in comparison to the chaos that goes on around me.
Filled with other people/Full of Solitude? Depends. There's lots of people, but they don't have as big of an impact as they could.
In general, would you say you are (expound if you can, please)...
Loud/Quiet? If I'm just making small talk or idle conversation, I'll be on the quiet side, but getting me involved in something I'm passionate about will result in me being.. um.. well, let's just say I can be vocal about it.
Faithful/Skeptical? Both. I have faith that everything will work out eventually, but I'm rather cynical when it comes to speculating the outcome.
Realist/idealist? Both. It's good to realize your potential and where it can be best put to use, but it's good to have dreams, too. The ideal thing would be for them to both come together equally, but.. >_>
Shy/outgoing? If someone wants to engage me in conversation, I don't have any objections. But I'm not some.. obnoxious.. thing, that has to befriend everyone I meet. (Though the thought of being liked is comforting.)
An extrovert/an introvert? Most would classify me as introverted, but I like being around other people. As much as I claim to dislike them as a whole, I'd go insane without their company.
An optimist/pessimist? Kind of the same thing with the realist/idealist question.
Music-Related
Favorite song/s: I HAVE TOO MANY. Seriously. My musical taste is so broad, the question probably doesn't bear answering anyway.
Favorite artist/s and/or composers: Candy Butchers/Mike Viola is a must-say on here, if only because only 10 or so people on the internet know of his existence. Think.. Beatles-inflected guitar pop/rock. Spacehog and Abandoned Pools (rock) are just more examples of my love for obscure bands - it's a special kind of obscure, though. Not popular enough to get regular radio airplay, but not obscure enough for the indie scene to make t-shirts of it available in Hot Topic. Such a shame.
More well-known stuff I like includes No Doubt/Gwen Stefani, Barenaked Ladies, The Killers, Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, and to a lesser extent of mainstream popularity: Imogen Heap/Frou Frou, Hall & Oates, The Mars Volta, The Cardigans and Jill Sobule.
I like plenty of foreign stuff, too. Ringo Shiina/Tokyo Jihen, Olivia Lufkin/OLIVIA, Tomoko Kawase/the brilliant green/tommy heavenly6 or february6, Miwako Okuda. I like some korean singles, as well (though the whole albums aren't as great) - Eugene/Kim Yoo Jin, Lee Jung Hyun and Park Ji Yoon come to mind.
Favorite lyrics: There's a ton. Though, let's mention a few..
Make No Mistake by Candy Butchers is just awesome, lyrically. Same with The New Radical's
I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away The Ending. (The mentioning of porn stars is just a coincidence. Pure.. uh.. coincidence.)
I notice I tend to like songs that give really vivid or detailed stories. The above two fit that, obviously (the latter maybe a little too much XD), but as a general thing. Rilo Kiley's
Does He Love You?, No Doubt's
Too Late, and Spacehog's
A Real Waste Of Food are also good examples. (To clarify, lyrics aren't everything, but I prefer they have meaning in a song - it's true a song that's too wordy might not go over well with me, especially cases when the title of the song doesn't even pertain to the song itself. I'm looking at you, Panic! At The Disco. Fall Out Boy. >_> )
What sounds (e.g. birds singing) do you find pleasing to the ear? And vice versa? Little melodic chime things, like music boxes. And bass guitar/bass in general, whether it be subtle or the whole of a song. <3
What genre/s or type/s of music do you prefer? Which ones do you dislike? I can fly with just about anything, to be honest. I seem to like rock and pop or mixtures thereof the most, but nearly anything goes. I'm also a fan of dance/techno songs - Daft Punk, anyone? I even like some rap and hiphop.. I can't really stand what's on the Top 40, though. (If I have to hear 'Umbrella' one more time..)
If your life had a soundtrack, what songs would be in it? Why? Oh, jeez. Let's see here. (This question is the hardest thing for me on this whole application. ._. )
First off we'd start with something curious for my childhood. (Maybe a little modesty?)
Olivia Ruiz - La Fille Du Vent
They Might Be Giants - Experimental Film
Then maybe something to symbolize my parent's divorce and further seperation from society..
Rooney - Losing All Control
Spacehog - Lucy's Shoe
Imogen Heap - Hide And Seek (MM WHAT'CHA SAAAY)
This would lead on up to 8th grade, where I got my first real, mind-numbingly painful crush.
Letters To Cleo - I'm A Fool
Spacehog - Perpetual Drag
Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes
After that, maybe the aftermath and my reemerging into the sociable thing I used to be.
Fountains of Wayne - This Better Be Good
Letters to Cleo - Because of You/Alouette & Me
Daryl Hall - Babs and Babs
Sarah Blasko - At Your Best
Daft Punk - Face to Face
I'm only 16, so it's not very long. Leaves plenty of room for epic events in the future, though.
If you were trapped in a room (feel free to enhance on this scenario) and had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? Probably a Mars Volta song. Their stuff is rock (progressive), of course, but the way the songs are cut up, just one could fit your moods for a lifetime. Roulette Dares and Eriatarka come to mind.
