I'm reading a Rankin book at the moment called 'The Brightonomicon' which is sort of a pisstake of both Brighton culture and of the new-age crowd. One of the main characters in it is a character based on Aliester Crowley. I thought I'd share with you some of the names he goes by as they make me giggle ( Read more... )

this is the first of his i've read. its not bad in a prattchety kind of a way. i suppose knowing both brighton and the new-age crowd makes it that bit funnier.

that being said, i reckon i won't need to read another of these sort of books for a while tho...

I thought I was alone in my cheesy love for Rankin.

Oh, the puns! Oh, the characters...

This is my first outing and it is amusing me nicely. The perfect novel for travelling, break times or on the beach...

I've read a couple of his books, but I find the humour a little cheesy and hit-and-miss for my liking.

Shame, because he's a sound-as-fuck bloke.

Like I said, not usually my thing and certainly not something I could read regularly (once every five or six years is about right for this kind of humour) but the things he's lampooning are close to home and deserve a good pisstake. So fair play :)

I met him once, he tried to sell me one of his books by holding it up next to his face and pointing at it, and then to himself, for you see the book had this on it: a picture of his face.
However, I have read this many of his books: 0

Until last Thursday I was in the same boat as you. Other than the face pointing experience, that is ;)
