I´ve gone through a few name lists to make a list of potential names for Pinga. (She won´t be given a name until after she´s born and "tells" us what name suits her best ( Read more... )

You can always see what used to be popular and buck the current trend. I have nothing more to offer than a few random links.

The girl list you can choose from:

The gender neutral list you can choose from:

I guess that the upside to having a list of approved names is nobody has to worry about having an unusual name like Moon Unit, Dweezle or Hashtag.

Historical popularity of names:

Specifically for Norway:

A few interesting thoughts:

Good luck and let us know what name she chooses.

Oh yeah, we also don´t want a gender neutral name. I don´t want her to be ashamed of being female...

I imagine the hardest part is getting something Norwegian/English compatible. I don't know enough Norwegian to even know what pronounces okay.

Just to pick a name not all at random, what does Meredith sound like if a Norwegian tries to pronounce it?

Most Norwegians would pronounce Meredith correctly but the name is "foreign" enough to possibly cause "trouble"...

Looking at the Norwegian Female list that Navilor linked, I have to say, I really like Corinne and variants.

Is Corinne being listed as a Norwegian name? It is most certainly not a Norwegian name...

Not Linda, not Heidi (ends with ee sound), Marie is too common and boring...

Bloody hell... I had a nice little write up going here and then accidentally closed my browser and lost it all. So here's the executive summary: Wife and I prepared ahead of time for either boy or girl since we didn't know which (didn't want to know) sex. We took it with us to the O.R. for the delivery and... we chucked it all and picked something we'd originally discarded. It just seemed right, and to this day it is. :)

The preparation was very helpful in that we were really sure of what we didn't want.
